Earlier, I mentioned the added complexity of Spirecrest, and I don’t think I’m wrong about this as even the 2 nd page of the rulebook recommends that you do not play Spirecrest mixed with another expansion but don’t worry, almost all of the added mechanics take place when you Prepare for Season. If you secured the Collector’s Edition, you are given three extra Big Critters: Truffle the boar, Corliander the peacock, and Firebeak the vulture. This means the boosts these cards give can be more selected and targeted toward your current strategy and needs rather than the randomly dealt adornment cards.

While I think Spirecrest is the most complex of the expansions, I don’t think it is that much more burdensome than Pearlbrook, and I wouldn’t say the additional complexity is substantial.e. the rabbit who will bravely hike across the trail, unearthing new and mysterious locations along the way.

While Bellfaire essentially just enhances the base game of Everdell, Spirecrest adds many more decision points and truly alters how you need to approach the game, as you can’t just ignore the Spirecrest board and expect to win. On the plus side, the Player Powers are a lovely concept to offset the higher player counts for those who are so brave.

This list has wallet-sized and wallet-friendly games; games for the first timer and for friends who have been playing for years. If you ever thought to yourself that the core Everdell experience is just too gosh darn endearing and tranquil then “good” news, because the way the weather cards impact the lives of the poor little woodland critters can best be described as downright cruel: from droughts that causes all green production cards to not activate at all during the current season, to hail storms which forces you to discard a card after visiting a basic or Forest location.
