About this deal

Spielberg conceived the idea because of real-life figures such as Juan Perón in Argentina, who allegedly protected Nazi war criminals. It’s perfectly paced, has great action, and it has that wonderful sense of humour that infuses the Indiana Jones films. The box set includes “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” on Blu-ray.

Finally, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was published in May 1989, and was the first Indiana Jones novel by Rob MacGregor. It is watchable enough though, and some may consider more in keeping with Temple of Doom and Last Crusade in terms of colour timing. For one Indian fakir, it was certainly fate that they managed to escape the plane crash, and find their way to his village. The Creepy Crawlies (optional pop-ups); Travel with Indiana Jones: Locations (optional pop-ups); Indy's Women: The American Film Institute Tribute; Indy's Friends and Enemies; Iconic Props; The Effects of Indy; Adventures in Post Production, Making of Documentary, Audio Description, Spanish, Portuguese 2.

But until that happy day comes along, Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures is still a film buff’s treasure worth seeking. The movie however is visually very disappointing, in no way matching the look and style of the first three films. You get contemporary interviews with the cast and crew recorded for that 2003 release, interspersed with clips and behind the scenes looks at the respective movies. From legendary filmmakers Steven Spielberg and George Lucas comes one of the greatest movie franchises of all time, Indiana Jones.

The iconic bullwhip and hat used by Indiana Jones are important parts of the character development throughout the series. Indiana Jones - The Adventure Collection is a DVD box set of special editions of the first three Indiana Jones feature films. The contemporary material is framed at 4:3, but you get full screen inserts of deleted scenes, outtakes and clips from the film. But while he heads off for a painful reunion, the Nazis are one step ahead in Egypt with their own consultant archaeologist, Rene Belloq. I won’t discuss the films themselves here; I plan to review each one for A Certain Point of View, Too in the future, but I will say this: as much as I like the existing quartet, including the much maligned Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Raiders of the Lost Ark is my favorite film.

In 1984, a prequel, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, was released, and in 1989, a sequel, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. For the cult of the Thuggee is at large again, has stolen the village sacred stone casting the region into a famine, and worse, has stolen all the village children. I have to admit I did feel deflated after that cinema viewing, and for many of the same reasons that critics cite, but the more I watch it, the more the film grows on me, and I have to admit that I enjoyed Kingdom of the Crystal Skull even more this time. The dialogue is clear, John Williams’ music is present and correct, and the action gets a proper surround soundstage to play in. The only reason this is a 4 star review is the inclusion of the tedious cash grab that Kingdom turned out to be.

Adventures in Post Production 12:36 are all presented in HD, and are taken from the Crystal Skull Blu-ray, although the Post Production featurette makes no mention of why the film looks as over-processed as it does. They do, however, have the trailers for each of the four films, a feature not included in the Star Wars Blu-ray sets. And behold the Holy Grail's power to give and take life, as Indy and his father race against time in this timeless classic. Behind the Scenes, Bonus Footage, Documentaries: On Set with Raiders of the Lost Ark: From Jungle to Desert, From Adventure to Legend; Raiders: The Melting Face! The “book” fits into a sturdy cardboard slipcover; both feature a Drew Struzan illustration done in the style of the late Richard Amsel, the artist who created the original poster for Raiders of the Lost Ark back in 1981.

Both Donovan and Elsa fall to the temptation of the Grail, while Indiana and Henry realize that their relationship with each other is more important than finding the relic. As before, the film is presented with an animated menu, and the only extras on this disc are the theatrical and teaser trailer, presented in HD.
