I was uneasy about this at first, but it works great and Maggie loves having the freedom to explore too. I don't know the tech spec but I do know that the speed at which apps loaded and screens transitioned was instantly noticeable compared to previous Leappad incarnations.

A round button has four directional keys, and once I pointed it out my toddler could switch the tablet on and off by herself with the silver button on the side. Through the parental conrols, I can access the Wifi and add/replace and delete apps to her device without even having to connect it to my PC via a USB. It has both a front and rear-mounted camera, an integrated soft-headed screen stylus (attached to the tablet so that you won't lose it) and it comes with a number of games and creativity apps installed by default.

I love that you can download games wirelessly rather than having to connect it to a computer all the time. Disclosure: We were sent a LeapPad 3 to review as part of our LeapFrog ambassadorship and for the purpose of this post. I have blogged and shared on social media how much progress my toddlers have made, thanks to their iPad Minis. There is plenty of content for his age group and we can just get different, more suitable, games and programmes as he gets older. My son is two years old and this thing is mean for 3-8 year olds and none of the games on it are meant for two year olds.

We were tempted to download the Frozen soundtrack but we already have it as a digital download from iTunes and it is a shame to have to pay for it all over again so that Lara can play it from her Leappad. The resolution is 480x272 pixels which is pretty low resolution and some of the graphics can occasionally seem a bit pixelated.

There are hundreds of reading, writing and maths games available and it is a nice thought that your child is learning alongside being entertained. However, the LeapPad 3 and its parent company LeapFrog has won a barrage of awards for its educational value. The LeapPad doesn’t give a percentage charge figure like an iPad or smartphone does, so it’s tricky to say exactly how long it takes but I found it was fully charged within an hour of plugging it in.

The tablet has cameras on the front and back, and with the photo app you can play around with your pictures with different effects. As far as I was concerned, the LeapPad3 was a fantastic all-round entertainment tool which has some educational value.
