About this deal

The upshot is that I was always going to be well disposed to this album, even though I haven’t listened to it for quite some time. Track B1 published by Hazy/Heathside, Track B4 published by Stratsong and Track B5 published by Essex Music. There was a time when, in the days I counted these things, Lindisfarne were probably the band I’d seen live most often.

Joe Robertson, Brethren manager and then Lindisfarne co-manager with Dave Wood, took Alan Hull/Brethren demos to Tony Stratton Smith which resulted in recording deal with Charisma.

I have happy memories of being blinded by the halogen spots they’d turn on the crowd at the chorus of Clear White Light, their long-time closing song. Then there is the "Hull family", Alan's wife Pat and their daughters Rosamund, Francesca and Berenice.

On the other hand, the followers could probably sing every word of ‘We can swing together’ and I suspect the roof came off on several venues when this was played live. The title of the seventh track, "Alan in the River With Flowers", is a parody of The Beatles' song " Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", and was given its original title of "Float Me Down the River" on the American version. Mr Bolton, owner of the local garage that regularly repaired Lindisfarne's vans at ridiculously low cost. Vote up content that is on-topic, within the rules/guidelines, and will likely stay relevant long-term.Our self-promoted gigs at venues like Jesmond Banqueting Hall and the New Orleans Jazz Club attracted a clientele who were as daft as us and often remarked on the whacky self-produced advertising material that had drawn them to our gigs. Tracks like the "Jackhammer Blues" or the "Knacker's Yard Blues" are not according to my taste and don't really fit the flow. Playing the album this afternoon, I cheerfully sang along with most of the songs (Fog on the Tyne was released later).

The title of the piece was displayed in an ornate line drawing featuring cherubs and ladies playing harps and singing. Great CD, a few of my favorite tunes are: Down, Jackhammer Blues, Knackers Yard Blues and Scarecrow Song. The album stands up to repeated playing;I have had the album since its release in 1970,and never tired of it. I never was a real fan of British folk music but I heard Nicely Out Of Tune at a party and I liked it.
