About this deal

Living in a completely different state from the prison, it is not until Ed's execution date has been set that Joe travels up to see him. Anyways, I don’t know if this will only release in Australia, but if it ever comes to the US, I’ll look out for it! However, a reviewer for Kirkus Reviews criticized the characters' confusing names and the writing style. However, their plan to poison Sharptooth goes awry, as he swats the rabbit they used to bait him aside and goes after Crowpaw instead.

Sarah Crossan has managed to craft something beautiful out of the horror of death row; she tackles difficult issues of life and death sensitively and honestly. This is a book that really got to me on an emotional level because of its heart-wrenching subject matter tearing a family apart, and yet there were also tender strands of hopefulness woven throughout that didn't just make this a difficult read – as I smiled along with the brothers reminiscing about sillier times too. Shortlisted for the Costa Children’s Book Award, The YA Book Prize, CBI Book Of The Year Award and the CLIPPA Award. This contemporary star-crossed love affair is convincing and moving--and also a heartbreakingly timely portrayal of discrimination and bullying. Review: I haven’t read much from Sarah Crossan but I have read One which made me cry, so when I got the opportunity to get my hands on Moonrise I was so excited to read it.

When Joe's older sister Angela rings for up dates, Joe hides how awful the apartment is, how he is "working" for just food.

We do get to see how Joe and his siblings lovingly supported one another, given that their drug- and alcohol-addicted mom was largely absent or useless. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories. The book made me think of many questions like, how corrupted can the justice system be to place an innocent person on death row because they were at the wrong place at the wrong time? Not that this is a bad thing for a complex story, however I felt there was some room for better world descriptions and character development. While she insists that there’s no point wasting life or money helping someone who wasn’t sorry, Joe sees things differently. The finale doesn't ring true to the rest of the story before it, however Moonrise, as any entry in the Grand Tour series before it, is a standalone novel definitely worth reading.
