About this deal

Nothing less than e24mm seems up to standard, from what I have seen, and the 12-100 f4 has some issues at the wider end as I have experienced so far (not sure if it is field curvature, but there is definitely some weirdness going on with focal plane at the edges). For what it’s worth, my Nikon 16-85 was also great for close up flat field work, better than the 16-80 by a good margin, something I believe overlooked by many a reviewer. Full disclosure: I organized and paid for this personal trip on my own, and the choice to bring Olympus gear was my own as well. aperture of f8, since that is the way the images would look alike: A FF shot at 200mm f8 will look the same in DOF and noise as here on m43 with 100 mm f4.

This is great news for users that might be leery of a Micro Four Thirds lens that 'only' opens up to F4, as well as those users that want to take advantage of the high-res shot mode. I did not notice anything out of the ordinary with the wide angle end of the 12-100mm, but then again the Olympus software may have corrected everything, so you may not get that benefit using any other processing software. I've been using the 12-40 since I got my own em5ii and have also taken that combination sea kayaking!Let me begin my first ever comment on any of the many photography-related sites I have been reading daily for many years now by underlining that I respect everything posted for what it is, be it a personal opinion, a fact, a concealed advertisement, a. The cost of creating a lens of such a large zoom range (12-100mm) with optimum optical performance throughout is the weight and size of it. give a little more bite but more importantly it sharpens up the corners making this lens excellent for landscape work at any focal length. But its always a trade-off, if i prefer a smaller and lighter lens without being willing to sacrifice my system’s total focal length range, I have to tote additional lenses around. This is MUCH heavier, and changing lenses is time-consuming and in the field opens the risk for dust on the sensor.

I still stand behind my opinion that this lens highlights the wrong direction m43 focus took away from compact size solutions towards heavy lenses and bodies. Zuiko 12-100mm F4 is that unless you need to stop down for depth of field or another reason, the lens is more than sharp enough to just shoot wide-open all the time. Let's better appreciate what we have, consider what gives us joy, and get out there to take some photos.Because of the small m43 dimensions (and in-camera correction) Olympus was able to make a super zoom that's actually good. Honestly, besides the large lens size and weight, there really is nothing to complain about with this lens.
