About this deal

is the spiritual successor to the wildly popular – but famously large and unwieldy – AF-S 14-24mm F2. Everyone counterfeits laser holograms, but few people have dot-matix printers floating around to fake these. it will yield a similar magnification to equivalent lenses on other mounts, and will get you just as close.

And while it's not a huge difference, there's no denying that the Nikon 14-24mm is both shorter and lighter than its nearest rival on another platform, the Sigma 14-24mm F2. Armchair experts are going to have a hard time finding any fault with it, which makes it an easy lens to review. The lens also has a unique physical design, which incorporates a top OLED information panel that can be used to quickly confirm aperture and focus settings, and an assignable L.Whilst a different level of lens entirely, and not as sharp as either of these two beasts wide open, it is surprisingly good stopped down to f8. Weather-resistant construction with a brass bayonet that affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity. This 14-24mm AF-S G works perfectly on almost every AF film camera, although you won't get autofocus with the cheapest or oldest AF film cameras like the N55 or N2020. This can be used to control the lens' aperture, ISO sensitivity or exposure compensation (though it lacks detents, which some users find helpful when manipulating these types of settings).

It balances pretty well on Nikon's latest full-frame bodies, with just a touch of 'front-heavy' feel that doesn't really change as you zoom the lens. When they say "Wide open sharpness drops off quickly as you move away from image center" samples provided by CameraLabs demonstrate quite the opposite; sharpness in the edge remains very good at 2.

In-camera stabilization would need a rubber sensor to move the corners about 50% more than the center of the sensor to correct corner shake). The HB-97 lens hood is much bulkier, especially if you're using its huge lens cap, but it does accept 112mm screw-on filters. Nikon stopped offering 5-year lens warranties in 2021 in an effort to save themselves money at our expense.
