The employees separate into "tribes" based on which parts of the park they take over as their command centers, and things start getting pretty brutal, pretty fast. and there's also a "respect your women" argument expressed for why you should avoid having too many partners in the sack in case they get jealous and fighty, which also doesn't really wash when you've already, you know, murdered a bunch of females.it's vivid, wonderfully gory, and as absurd as it seems on the surface - that people would deteriorate into Lord of the Flies lawlessness in under a month - given the circumstances, the participants, the escalation, the book does a good job making it seem like something that could totally happen.

Not a single person remembered Fantasticland was scheduled to run a horror-themed event, or put together that the Freaks would have access to those props. It's actually considered an equal and marginally cheaper alternative to DisneyWorld and located in Florida. There is plenty of "on-screen" violence and the author pulls no punches with the descriptions of what happens in the park, you get to witness what happens sometimes firsthand, and then you get to hear how different individuals not only interpreted what went down but why they thought this stuff was happening as well. Refuge in Audacity: The Freaks had taken over the circus section which had decorations prepared for their Halloween celebration.Most of the employees who work for the park are college students with some just out of high school and referred to by the few older employees as "kids". Unreliable Narrator: As typical of eyewitness accounts, which can be very unreliable, the interviewed employees give conflicting versions of some events and can only speculate about things they didn't actually witness themselves. A small patrol of employees from the superhero section Hero Haven went out on patrol the night they left the shelter and were attacked by the Pirates. Action Survivor: Of the 300 people left behind in the park, less then a third of the group have any useful survivor skills and are lucky they're in a place with plenty of food and water. I knew this was going to be a fun gamble when all the passionate reviews I saw we're either 1 star or 4-5 star reviews.

When a hurricane hits Florida, the area around the theme park "FantasticLand" is completely flooded, which leads to it being cut off from the mainland for over a month. Hurricane Sadie ravaged the Florida coastline isolating the amusement park FantasticLand, which should have been far enough inland to avoid the destruction. With no help quick to come their way, the isolated individuals organised themselves into groups and attempted to assert some sense of social hierarchy into their new community.

The Apocalypse Brings Out the Best in People: Hurricane Sadie left millions of citizens in Florida homeless, short on food and water, and without electricity. Two: It’s a bunch of teenagers and young adults with no cell phones, social media or adult supervision.
