Where you receive such notice you may cancel your subscription by providing Somerset Council with 30 days’ notice. Somerset Council’s decision on whether a bin or bag will be emptied where in its reasonable opinion you have not complied with points 7 and/or 8 above will be final, and an alternate collection will not be arranged nor compensation provided. The householder must reduce the weight of the contents or otherwise remove the risk before the bin (or bags) will be emptied at the next scheduled collection.

Whilst this is better than burying it in landfill it is important that we all play our part to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle as much as possible. This contract sets out the basis on which we will provide the Garden Waste Collection Service to residents. If you are struggling financially and in urgent need we may be able to give you some support via the Liverpool Citizens Support Scheme. Where you cancel your subscription under these circumstances you will receive a refund, calculated on the basis of the cancelled portion of your subscription.Always make sure your bins are out in the right place by 7:00am and remember to take the bins back in as soon as you can after collection. Do not put out additional waste or recycling next to your bin as this is not permitted and will not be uplifted.

Your subscription fee will be refunded within 14 days of your notice of cancellation if you cancel during this period. If you live in a main door house and require additional waste capacity, you can request a larger green bin (360 litre), subject to eligibility criteria. Where you move to another property within Somerset and you wish to transfer your subscription to the new address you must give Somerset Council 10 days’ notice of the change of address. This could be using the blue or brown collection services, or by using local Recycling centres and points. We can help with collections if you are unable to take your bin or box to the kerbside because of disability or ill health through our 'pull out service'.

Part-year subscriptions are not available and no refunds will be made for cancellations part-way through the subscription year (except under the circumstances set out in clause 17 below). Green waste is taken to an open air composting facility where animals and birds could come in to contact with it. Any materials that can be recycled in the burgundy bin, blue bin, brown bin, black box or textile bag must not be placed in your green bin.

Please note we only accept limited quantities of soil at the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs). By subscribing to the Garden Waste Collection Service you agree to be bound by the terms set out here. Your garden waste goes to one of several composting sites in Somerset, including Dimmer and Walpole, where it is shredded, and turned into compost.

The heat produced in this process is then used to generate electricity which is fed back into the national grid. Please do not present bagged waste next to your green bin, the collection teams will not collect it. If you move to an address to a property outside Somerset and cancel your subscription you will not be compensated. A set of three 240-litre bins will be issued to new houses as standard - one blue, one green, and one black. On your collection day, please put your blue bin and green box out wherever your black and green bins are currently collected from, unless you receive a letter from the council telling you otherwise.

From August 2023, all non-recyclable general waste from your green bin and from the bulky and black bag skips at recycling centres will be sent to an Energy from Waste Facility. In the interest of health and safety, please ensure that your bins are presented at the kerbside for collection without anything attached, including rope or bungee cords, as this can become entangled with our lifting equipment and is a danger to operatives.
