I liked how there was usually the main illustration on the right-hand side of the page and then small frames around the text giving a bit more detail to the story. He manages to create a book both reassuring and fun for the very young, while also deep and provocative for the older ages. Being a silly story juxataposed against such beautifully atmospheric illustrations may be the point - but it felt like the author was going for some larger statement about facing fear. It's great for children to know that there are times when someone has to just stop the madness and see what all the fuss is about.
