I have read each entry within hours of getting it, swept away by all the clues and red-herrings, and the general adventure of being aboard a train. Absolutely blown away by Uncle Nat’s revelation… but love to think where this is going to take these stories. However, I'm never one to turn down time at a creepy, gothic mansion, so this setting worked as well.

A curse, a very strange family, a missing will, witches, a spooky castle and a steam train gave great background to the story which was as always beautifully illustrated by Elisa Paganelli. She now collaborates as a freelance designer with publishers and advertising agencies all over the world, including designing and illustrating The House With Chicken Legs (Usborne) and the Travels of Ermine series (Usborne). De familie Kratzenstein is een heel uitgebreide familie en ik ben Elisa Paganelli dan ook heel dankbaar dat ze de moeite heeft genomen om in naam van Alex een stamboom te tekenen, want ik kon hem gebruiken. There's a family which is out of the ordinary - the Kratzensteins to get to know, including working out their curse, which sends readers on a thrilling action-packed mystery to get their teeth into and solve. From a creaking spooky old house at the foot of the Harz mountains, they take the Kratzenstein family's funeral train to the peak of the Brocken Mountain.At first it was really confusing trying to get my head around all of the characters and how they were all connected and then after the 100 page mark the plot just got a little bit too ridiculous for me. I liked the twists this one had to it, including wondering if there was going to be a fantasy element, or would it be explained?
