About this deal

Sealey flies O'Brien out to Georgia where they believe they have a mass grave spanning over 200 years and over 200 bodies found.

I must give a lot of the credit here to Barker, whose career started in the horror genre before venturing into dark serial killer stories and psychological thrillers. There's a reason We Are Legion was named Audible's Best Science Fiction Book of 2016: Its irresistibly irreverent wit!To avoid spoilers, I will not go into too much detail about her here, but I will say she was an exquisite and amazing character, and the authors did a remarkable job bringing her to life and fitting her into this remarkable story. O’Brien cannot help but think that he may have been duped by the woman, who is likely a killer working her own angle. Patterson boils a scene down to the single, telling detail, the element that defines a character or moves a plot along.

After Black Widow gave up her life for the Avengers to defeat Thanos, there was no way that Hawkeye could ever go back to being Ronin again. He just knows that he has a strange affinity for poor little Amy found in a bloody apartment with the corpse of the taxi driver who apparently held her prisoner for weeks chained in the bathroom. The book follows the main character Walter O’Brien, ex-cop and ex-FBI, who finds himself chasing after the same woman from when he met her in 1986 to his final stand-down with her in 2009. Black Widow sadly gave up her life to save others in Avengers: Endgame, and Hawkeye gave even more meaning to her Marvel Cinematic Universe death. When Billy can’t find the informant, he wonders if Kate is secretly harboring her, since the two grew close during Kate's weeks undercover. When several members of the ring soon turn up dead, Billy abruptly pulls Kate out, blowing her cover. When I first read The Outsider I was so disappointed because I felt it should have been, could have been so much more - one of his best really. Little did he know at that time that he was meeting the individual who would get into his head and stay there for the rest of his life.

If there's anything that the Hawkeye finale made clear, it is that Yelena will find her own path, and it will undoubtedly be a worthy tribute to Black Widow's Avengers: Endgamesacrifice. Given their respective CV's I'm guessing Patterson did the police procedural parts and Barker handled the supernatural elements. I enjoyed this book however I enjoy more typical detective novels and I didn’t really enjoy the sci fi parts.

One of the best parts of this is that you get to see the growing obsession that Walter builds towards this woman, as meeting her proves to be a defining experience for him.

Watching this usually confident and capable person being haunted by this obsession proves to be powerful and captivating centre to this story, and you really feel for this protagonist as he struggles. At first, it’s not even clear how O’Brien’s first day on the job—where it seems the victim of a kidnapping escapes from his squad car—is related to the current events. O'Brien is convinced that Archer is involved and he gets some real serious push back from his superiors. Along the way, they’ll unlock wisdom for those of us navigating our own coupledoms, and for those still seeking their perfect match. I own copies of the Patterson/Barker collaborations The Coast to Coast Murders and The Noise, but I haven't read them yet.Another problem I have (personally) with audiobooks is keeping track of characters names that I am not seeing spelled out on paper. Patterson boils a scene down to a single, telling detail, the element that defines a character or moves a plot along. The audiobook reflects Rhonda’s own journey and shares the most direct way out for those experiencing hardship and the path to end pain and suffering endured by so many, and it shines a light on a future without anxiety or fear. Barker may have begun by following in the footsteps of such literary royalty as Stephen King, Thomas Harris, and Dean Koontz, but he has blazed a unique path all his own. I have been keen to check out this awesome writing team for a while ( The Noise is currently sitting on my shelf waiting for my attention), and when I received a copy of their latest book, Death of the Black Widow, I made sure to read it as soon as possible.
