I was saddened when Tina Dickinson left our club to join Leeds and Bradford Tri, having decided that after years of battling injuries from running, competing in triathlons was the way forward.

Seller has stated it will dispatch the item within 1 working day upon receipt of cleared payment - opens in a new window or tab . Part fish, Julia’s ability in water was already intimidatingly good and if she could be coached to cycle downhill at the same speed she cycles uphill, and we can keep her upright on the run, well, watch out Alistair and Jonny.

And if that’s not enough, you can use two hands which then gives you seven fingers to measure with (yes, I know, most people have eight fingers, but you still need to leave one to hold the pillar! My relationship with bikes has never been great, not since as a kid I flew down Knott Lane on my sit-up-and-beg Raleigh. It is advertised as the ‘ 20/24″ Wheel Adapter‘, so you would be forgiven for thinking that it would be too short to enable the roller to meet a 16″ wheel. In theory you are right but a bit puritanical TBH, its hard to continue to be motivated without a reward and also if the riding gets easier/quicker due to an upgrade of bicycle that can help spur you on don't you think? Obviously, as I’ve discussed in an earlier post, the ‘whether to lock or carry’ debate is not a clear cut one, despite what some Brompton owners may think or say.

It all really boils down to a question of circumstance, and at the risk of coming over all corporate and job’s-worthy, a case of making some form of appropriate risk assessment. When I asked Team Turnip, who also walk when not cycling, about joining them sometime I got a response along the lines of ‘Oh, we’re not in your league’. Desperate to escape the daily grind, he heads for the Scottish Highlands and finds that a change involving a pushbike and hills isn't always as good as a rest for a fat bloke.

A couple of posts ago, I mentioned that I’d bought a turbo trainer so as not to lose my cycling-legs during the extended periods of poor weather we’d been having here in the UK. Also, where is a good place to get a test and a fitting so l can work out whether it would work for me? Talking of tinkering, something else I’ve been experimenting with is changing the standard 50T crank to a 44T crank, the idea being that I would get a lower bottom gear to help with the hilly roads we have round here.Where I live (in northwest England) apart from being perpetually cool and damp, there has been nary a sunny day since March. You then push the brake forward in an attempt to release it from the frame…but suddenly you realise that it is stuck against the wheel and won’t move far enough for the spindle to clear the hole. So you then have to loosen the brake cable so you can pull the brake away from the wheel and the frame without it snagging. Once fitted to the trainer, a Brompton ends up being a lot higher off the ground than a regular bike would be.

Paul P tells the tale so well that I felt every excrutiating turn of the pedals, His prose is very descriptive meaning I thought it was me who was experiencing the big highs and deep lows as he crossed England and Scotland. In fact, it ends up being so high off the ground that you (or at least I) may need a step to get on and off the bike!I'm sure this will inspire many a fat bloke to don his lycra, and maybe this one will continue past the station one of these days.
