About this deal

With a backdrop of his own dysfunctional marriage it traces his development from being a gung-ho undercover police officer in the UK infiltrating drug gangs to an advocate of the end to the war against drugs and the wholesale decriminalisation of drugs. Neil Woods spent fourteen years (1993-2007) infiltrating drug gangs as an undercover police officer – befriending and gaining the trust of some of the most violent, unpredictable criminals in Britain. These guys will spend months working in an area, just so their faces have been seen and their backstory carries more weight. Neil Woods provides a very compelling argument in support of the decriminalisation of drugs in Good Cop, Bad War (2016). After the dealers have been followed for some time, there will be a major bust by the police, with often large number of people arrested and brought to trial.

En nuestro catálogo encontrarás best-sellers, novelas románticas, libros de misterio, libros de desarrollo profesional, novelas de ciencia ficción y mucho más! The best book ever written about the British drugs trade" proclaims journalist Johann Hari on the cover. I have read enough narco books and educated myself to know that this ‘War on Drugs’ is a total sham. It kept me enthralled all the way to the anti-prohibition message at the end, which I thought was well delivered. Find a solution to the drug problem, rob the villains of their incomes, and one does more damage to organised crime than any number of convictions.Neil worked in a relatively small area, in towns and cities around the peak district, except Brighton.

I would have liked at least half the book to discuss experiences in countries where drugs have been legalized, or talking with people who support the cause to legalize drugs.

Starting out in the early 90s and making the rules up as he went, Neil was at the forefront of police surveillance. Good Cop, Bad War' is a unique story about a man with a striking ability to infiltrate and extinguish drug gangs, but who, as the success of his operations grows, becomes disillusioned with the 'War on Drugs', as he sees how it demonises those who need help while empowering 'the very worst elements in society'. In the end, the only people the police forces can bust are just ordinary addicts, they no longer have any access to the big dealers and gangs. I was now discovering that, like every war, the people who suffered most weren’t the combatants, but the civilians caught in the crossfire. The trouble is that after this has happened a few times in a few cities, the big time dealers start to get very paranoid about their little street dealers introducing anyone new to them, because their experiences now tell them that the new person could easily be an undercover policeman. You will come away from the book feeling that in some sense big changes need to be made by governments if the fall out from dealing drugs and its effect on society is to be reduced. Drawing on Neil’s experiences, with the insight that can only come from having fought on the front lines, GOOD COP, BAD WAR is at once a narrative-driven true crime read and a fascinating story of a character under pressure.I saw Neil Woods on some YouTube channels and heard some of the stories there so wanted to read his book for the extra detail and background. His discussion about his work with LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition) takes up a slim chapter at the end. He does love himself though and his ego I guess is the thing that kept him alive through his experiences.
