About this deal

Compared to the Yeti, the other stainless-steel tumbler in my trial, it got down to the drinkable temperature faster, hitting 138 degrees within 15 minutes (the Yeti was still at a too-hot-to-drink 174 degrees at this point). I do, in fact, enjoy the experience of drinking coffee as it cools and identifying the different flavor notes that become present. Lastly, we looked at the design of the mug and if they were easy to clean and handle (some got hot to the touch) and pleasant to drink out of. The manual indicates that the ionMug is safe to use under running water, but I bet you shouldn’t really do that (I cleaned each mug with soap, then quickly ran water only in the mug, not outside of it.

I like double-walled carafes because they keep coffee hot without baking or exposing the coffee to additional heat, and while these mugs do use heat to keep the coffee warm (they do so gently: it’s easier to keep something at a consistent temperature than to bring it up from room temperature or colder), I thought, “if I care so much about keeping coffee warm after it’s brewed, why am I not thinking about how to keep it warm after it’s poured? Some of the self-heating mugs gave a stated battery life of fewer than four hours, which we factored in when making our picks. We also felt that — compared with freshly brewed coffee — the mugs kept the coffee warm but negatively affected the taste over time. Whatever your preference you can enjoy your drink for your whole commute (or at least until you've guzzled it all down! If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag.The con is that you are tethered to the plate, so you have to come back to it to place the mug down if you want the beverage to stay warm. Instead, I’d classify this as a really lovely luxury, an item that made drinking coffee better in a way that I hadn’t expected. That may sound gimmicky but it is actually pretty useful: On the app, you can set your desired temperature (anywhere from 120 to 145 degrees in single-degree intervals, the most specific control of any mug) and view the current temperature of your drink. But, what I can do (and did) is test the most popular temperature control mugs to find the best ones.

TL;DR: Ember is a sleek, app-controlled mug that will keep your beverage at a set temperature anywhere from 120 to 145 degrees and it’s mostly accurate based on my testing. It can be charged directly on its USB-powered charging pad, or you can remove the battery and charge it separately. Enjoy your coffee, tea or hot chocolate on the road – during breaks, that’s why it has the heat settings and comes with a car charger! Temperature Hold Test: After charging, we poured eight ounces of hot coffee and set each mug to 135°F (if it could be set), to see how it held temperature off its charging station.

as it continued to "cook," but we found that for shorter periods, heated mugs did keep coffee hot and that warmer coffee was more palatable than cooler coffee. Using the mug independently will limit you from customizing specific features from the Ember mobile app such as adding a name or assigning presets to different drinks.Along with a digital thermometer that gives temperature readings in real time, the Ember Travel Mug can also be controlled using the brand’s easy-to-use app. The nights are drawing in and the weather is cooling; whether you're a winter caravanner or put your vehicle into storage for winter, there are a few essential items available to help you get prepared and protect your investment. Yes—although this wasn’t part of our testing protocol, I did allow some of the coffees to go cold, usually by letting the mugs get to sleep mode, and turned them back on. We are fully integrated with PayPal, Clearpay and Klarna whom all offer payment options at the checkout. The battery life of your hot mug depends on a number of factors including but not limited to: external temperature, liquid temperature at pour, speed of liquid consumption, and your set temperature.

When we say UK, unlike many other sites, we mean the whole of the UK, including Northern Ireland, and all of the Channel Islands! Also, once the Yeti hit that sweet spot of around 140 degrees, it declined more rapidly than the Burnout, falling below 120 degrees two hours into testing. With four different settings you can set the heat between room temperature, luke warm, hot and VERY HOT! Both Embers and the VSITOO are app-controlled (arguably, these are the only “smart” mugs because of their app connectivity), and even amongst that group, the Ember Travel can be controlled via touch functions on the mug itself.
