About this deal
That's so yesterday, been there done that and they bore me as much as organ harvesting and child/human trafficking themes. Seven year old Nicky was kidnapped from his bed during the previous book, and his emotional suffering has taken away his spontaneity and joy. Please don't misunderstand me - I like a good, well written romance, and am happy to read sexy novels, but this is not the author's best genre. I'd stop following her publications yyears ago and only resumed recently, listening to some of the later books and was pleasantly surprised to find I enjoyed them.
Investigating the horrific murder of a teenage cheerleader and coping with his traumatized 7 year old, Special Agent Steven Thatcher has his hands full. Tension and stress reach explosive levels and keeping Jenna safe starts taking priority, but his family is falling apart and his job is becoming more and more frantic. I love nothing more, than when an author can make me feel the same level of fear and panic, that the characters are subjected to. The romance was well done, and evolved with a natural tempo organic to the character development and plot.Steven can't see a light at the end of the dark, hopeless tunnel that is his home situation, until he meets Jenna.
When a young girl's body founded in a clearing and another girl's body couple days later, Special Agent Steven Thatcher started to think that there is a serial killer on the lose. And then accusing the hero of not trusting her (which was true), yet her behavior suggested she didn't trust him either. As with other Karen Rose books, there's lot of scary moments and intricate plot that keeps your attention. It's what drives him to be a great detective, but it also puts a strain on his family relationships, especially with his kids. The 'romance' and laughable sex scenes are completely out of place in this book, and feel as if they have been written by a completely different author and slotted in.I think this is most because of the main character who had pretty much stupid behavior towards the main heroine. Brad’s teacher, Jenna Marshall, is sympathetic, and a relationship grows between the detective and the teacher – but both Steven and Jenna are bruised and wary from earlier relationships. Jenna is Brad's teacher and brings his failing grades to the attention of is father, because it is so out of character for him.
