As I mentioned in my first impressions of this laptop, I don’t like having the single Type-C port since it’s used for charging the Lenovo Flex 3 Chromebook.
Note that Lenovo does have a model with 8 GB of memory, 128 GB of storage, and a slightly faster N200 processor available in some regions. Lenovo has also placed a conventional USB-A port on both sides of the chassis, while a microSD card reader and volume rockers also make an appearance. We've tested faster and more powerful ChromeOS laptops galore, but in an environment defined by online tools and Android apps, relatively modest performance isn't a deal-breaker. It’s solidly executed and marks a literal and metaphorical turning point around which the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 3 Chromebook transitions to its strengths. The laptop's chassis is also sturdy, with no flex anywhere on the base and a display lid that feels eminently sturdy.
There's even a volume rocker on the right edge, and Lenovo has replaced the traditional Chromebook power button in the upper right with a key that locks the screen. That’s a dual-core chip derived from Intel’s low-power and low-cost Atom line of processors, rather than the premium high performance Core family. That's the second shortest time in the group and barely half the stamina of the HP, but it should be enough to get you through a day of work or school.
As for battery life, this is one seriously long lasting machine, notching up over 16 hours of video playback. On our theoretical benchmarks, the Flex 3 performs about as expected for an entry to midrange Chromebook.
But the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 3 has carved out a little niche of its own thanks to that particularly good build quality and some good features including dual USB-C ports.
The IdeaPad Flex 3i Chromebook with Intel Inside delivers the performance you need on apps and the web. I’ve experimented with both settings offered, as well as an app to add mouse controls, but nothing seems to reduce the jumpiness of the mouse. In addition to browsing and web apps, I rely heavily on Linux desktop apps for very specific tasks, such as programming. ChromeOS is relatively light and if you’re just browsing the web, you don’t need super-fast silicon to do it. However, the Lenovo Flex 3 Chromebooks greatly diminishes the stigma that “cheap Chromebooks are bad”.The Wi-Fi 6 capability ensures fast and stable connections while you download large files in the library or stream videos at a café. While computers are my main focus, I’ve also written at length about topics ranging from fitness gear and appliances to TV and home theater equipment. With a touchscreen and tablet capability that’s suitable for students or kids, the Flex 3 is truly versatile. The Full HD display means all your favourite films and games will look just as incredible as they do on TV, with the built-in sound system providing crisp, clear audio to accompany whatever's on-screen. Pay in 3 is a form of credit, may not be suitable for everyone and use may affect your credit score.
