And with each book, the layers get pulled back more, revealing how dangerous and disturbing a world in which ghosts are everywhere and can do humans harm might be. Like the previous books, this one is very entertaining and has likable protagonists, humor, excellent dialogue, and plenty of creepy encounters with all sorts of ghosts. Ghosts are all over the place and it's up to children to defend the British isle from this nasty infestation (cause adults can't see them, you see). Well, that’s if they can put aside their personal differences for long enough to march into action with their rapiers, salt and iron .The third book introduces a new character who mixes things up in the way that a newcomer does to a firm pre-established friendship. As the Chelsea hauntings continue to escalate, Lockwood, George and Lucy find their talents in more and more demand. But I can’t even complain about that just pointing it out, not complaining bc im so bloody invested in this series, I will die when it ends, plz I don’t deserve this kinda pain. On the character treatment side: there’s a new assistant girl at the agency, but, fortunately, there’s no silly love triangle (at least, not outside Lucy’s mind).

Lockwood and company have not received a invite to the Chelsea neighborhood because the main ghost agency branch (DEPRAC) are using more well known paranormal groups to fight all the ghosts and spirits. I think I love him more with every book and I don’t care if he’s supposed to be the weird kid in the group.It attacks—a great horrifying thing with tentacles, but the three teammates work together, each using their own particular skills, to defeat the Visitor (a Changer—a ghost that can take on any form) and escape. It's possible this is character bias because the story is from Lucy's perspective, but it's also possible I don't care. If you're a teen or adult that wants something that is nice and easy to read, a bit scary, and has great writing then this series is for you. It comes as a great shock, then, when Lockwood and George introduce her to an annoyingly perky and hyper-efficient new assistant, Holly Munro. The main characters gel wonderfully despite their differences, or perhaps because of the way they rub along together and irritate one another too.Lockwood helps the others escape and is trying to save Lucy but is blown skyward by the raging poltergeist. There are some great action sequences (including a haunted house with a giant open stairwell that extends from the basement all the way to the attic, and a high-stakes chase scene at a parade - this series is just begging for a film adaptation, and I think it could also make a decent TV series), the ghosts and hauntings remain genuinely scary, and the dialogue is still clever and snarky as hell.
