Thus, when I read this review, I kept thinking, “This sounds like something someone wrote in an MFA program to stand out.

It all makes a kind of sense at the end, but along the way you might find yourself wondering what is happening.It was rather incorrectly “applied”, starting with the conflation between strategies (cooperation or defection) and outcomes (defeat) in presenting 3 scenarios.

The way the philosophical thought experiments, mentioned at the start of all chapters, impressively come back loosely in the tales also add to the experience in my view. Finnegans Wake is a concatenation of puns committed in a dreamlike English that is difficult not to categorize as frustrated and incompetent. An act of such breath-taking imagination, daring and detail that the journey we are on is believable and the debate in the mind non-stop. Moving onwards in Love and Other Thought Experiments the cleverness of the connections between the stories start to show more and more.I think this is beautifully written, and the examination of the effect of tragic death, and parenthood in its wake, is among the most memorable writing I have encountered. I feel like these books exist for gay men but there STILL isn’t that much for anyone else under the LBGT+ umbrella, outside YA. This is a fascinating philosophical fiction novel with an interesting premise - each of the 10 chapters begin with a classic thought experiment, which are like writing prompts that take the book forward.
