About this deal

The flange plunger is similar to the cup plunger, at the top you have a cup but also an extra flap of rubber at the end known as the flange. It features a flat rubber cup at the end of a wooden or plastic handle that fits snugly in the toilet bowl, creating a tight seal. It may be a good idea to keep on hand one of each of the three kinds of plungers so that you always have the right plunger for the job. Editor’s note: This article first appeared on the Strategist in October 2016, and nearly four years later, it remains an example of a product that does what it’s supposed to do — exceptionally well.

If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. Unlike regular plungers, accordion plungers feature a flexible rubber head that can be adjusted to fit into various shapes and sizes.I’ve clogged and subsequently unclogged toilets in hotels around the world, in friends’ houses, in strangers’ houses, and in the many homes and apartments I’ve lived in during my life. Traditional plungers are made of porous rubber, which allows bacteria to seep in and is difficult to fully clean. With the right plunger and proper technique, you can save time and money by tackling your own clogs in the comfort of your own home. Accordion plungers are specially designed to fit into elongated or oddly-shaped bowls, allowing you to reach and clear clogs more effectively.

This plunger specializes at unclogging stubborn obstacles and blockages, and provides more concentrated power than traditional plungers. The nose on the accordion plunger is even narrower than that on a flange plunger, allowing it to fit inside the toilet drain (as opposed to being more or less squished on top of it), potentially increasing its suction power; however, the accordion plunger’s plastic construction can make getting a good seal trickier than with a flange plunger.

Until a couple years ago, I had no idea these other plungers existed or that the cup plunger was so ineffective for toilets. We’ll cover the three main types of plungers: the sink plunger, the toilet (or flange) plunger and the accordion plunger. NO FOLD LIP DESIGN: Our no fold lip design significantly minimizes the risk of splash back and is wipe clean to fight against nasty build up. When the toilet is overflowing or the sink is backed up on Thanksgiving, having a plunger on hand can make a huge difference. New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging .

You can, in fact, get by with just having a flange or accordion plunger, since these versatile plungers can do double duty for both sink and toilet. Why the hell do all you blogger plumbers swear up and down that the glorious flange plunger is the perfect match for a toilet? I'm assuming the issue is bowl size vs plunger size, but how the hell am I supposed to know what size plunger to get? So hopefully I can spare some of you the effort and frustration of trying to unclog a drain with the wrong tool for the job.Standard plungers can only displace between 2 and 4 cups of water at a time, but our accordion design allows for a much greater capacity than other toilet bowl plungers, resulting in a more forceful push.

Contrary to popular belief, the mainstay of bathrooms everywhere isn't actually for the toilet, and it's by far the worst of the three for that use. The standard rubber-cup plungers are prone to buckling, and they don’t always create the perfect vacuum seal around the toilet drain that you need to truly get the job done. For all of you who still have that little rubber cup with a wooden stick attached to it that you might refer to as a plunger, we’re not living in the 1950s anymore. If your plunger is not solving your clog, or you’re experiencing frequent clogs, there may be a larger issue in your home’s plumbing system. However, this plunger will not work well for a toilet clog since it won’t be able to seal properly to create suction. The flange plunger can also double as a cup plunger by folding the flange back, although you may want to keep a separate plunger for the toilet and one dedicated for the sink. It takes up no more room or aesthetic annoyance than a regular plunger (and actually, comes in some nice colors).
