About this deal

I can only hope that when I look again at the '90s (journal) volumes that I can remember the coded details and the sharp thoughts hidden between the safer lines. I’ve stayed away from Harry Potter, which he loved and hated doing in equal measure it seems, but you can read extracts from the diaries about the films in the Guardian here. Much later, after having lived through the entire experience with these young actors, he meets Radcliffe for lunch and seems to respect him much more, leading the reader to believe he saw Radcliffe evolve as an actor in a way Rickman didn’t expect. Alan Rickman is the most powerful and sexiest character actor to emerge from Britain in the last decade.

Rickman, who went on to play Professor Snape in the Harry Potter films, became known as one of the great movie villains, an actor who was magnetic in his menace and fury.I know the quotations I’ve picked above are of the more snarky variety, but they are endlessly entertaining. He rarely opines on these characters, merely listing the people and how the time was spent - so you may think, and be forgiven for doing so, what's the bloody point of all of this? I think my favourite moment in this book is when Sarah, Duchess of York, embraces Rickman in a lift.

After the diaries (1993-2015), there is an appendix with “a selection of extracts” from Rickman’s occasional earlier diaries (1974-82), but again no explanations are attempted with regards to the editorial process. There were some parts that were enjoyable, such as his thoughts on Tim Allen while working on Galaxy Quest. He has edited several acclaimed anthologies, including The Assassin's Cloak, a collection of the world's best diarists.

A lot of his life is also spent travelling from location to location: New York and LA are regular stops, and it’s a rarity not to meet another celeb on the flight. Additionally make sure your User-Agent is not empty and is something unique and descriptive and try again. After attending the premiere for The Sorcerer's Stone, Rickman wrote that “the film should only be seen on a big screen," adding that “it acquires a scale and depth that matches the hideous score by John Williams. More of him comes into view when you see what those journals were and from where this material was taken.

Im currently struggling with the Alan Rickman book it is a private diary and I don’t feel enough context has been explained as at times I feel I don’t not know what he was on about or who / what he is referring to.The diaries run from 1993 to his death in 2016 and offer insight into both a public and private life. We respectfully acknowledge the ancient cultural presence in the Australian landscape by First Nation peoples and their ongoing traditional and spiritual custodianship of the marine areas, beaches, bush, rivers, lakes and mountains.

That makes what follows a little uncomfortable, especially given the vulnerability and harshness of some of the entries. What is clear right from the start is Rickman is a real fan and supporter of the arts, going to see his many friends in as many performances as possible on stage and screen. The actor is forever lunching and gossiping, wants more discussion of motivation for his roles, hates being criticized himself, but loves to criticise others. Fully, openly, joyfully - truly, madly and, yes, deeply - he put his energies into the present moment . As you'll find, Rickman's diaries detail the extraordinary and the ordinary, flitting between worldly and witty and gossipy, while remaining utterly candid throughout.

If you enjoy the name-dropping, the who’s who of the British theatre and film world, he’s your man – just don’t forget that most are his friends and peers as much as his colleagues.
