About this deal

Feel a little harsh giving a three star rating but I disliked every character - I couldn’t warm to any of them at all. You may print off one copy, and may download extracts, of any page(s) from our site for your personal reference and you may draw the attention of others within your organisation to material posted on our site. I often wondered how this would end and what would they decide, the ending is brilliant and makes it all fall into place. When Ellie, Max and Nathan's father dies suddenly, a suitcase of money is discovered underneath the bed in his spare room. Dear Mr Packham – We have been instructed by an overseas law firm to trace and establish the so far missing beneficiary of a large estate in Southern Germany of their deceased client. For a story about an apparently ordinary suburban family, this is every bit as exhilarating as the recent James Patterson I’ve just finished, but with better characterisation and a twist worthy of a thriller. Be sure before you leave at the end of your shift on Monday to look in on Tanya Wolfgang, the young German lady who we operated on just now. I entered the kitchen and poured myself a glass of water, drinking it as I slowly crept up the stairs.I had applied for a more senior position which offered greater prospects and a substantial increase in salary. I never really felt emotionally connected to these characters, and frankly, with the exception of Max, I didn't care for them much. She has after all just broken up with her boyfriend and I am sure would enjoy an evening out with her older, wiser sibling.

honesty came in many hues between the absolutes of black and white, and she imagined that even honest people generally found a shade of grey that suited them to fit the circumstances. The characters are engaging enough, but they don’t actually start the story about ‘the inheritance’ of the title until halfway through the book by, which time I wasn’t really that bothered what they did with it!It is full of mystery and family secrets being unravelled, and has relatably flawed characters that you can’t help but sympathise with. My only slight criticism would be that it was so heavily focused on the money, there wasn't much else in the way of plot so I found it repetitive in places. It hurt a bit that they didn’t know I had been bubbly and vivacious too once, but sometimes I even doubted that version of myself had ever existed.

I really enjoyed it, parts of the storyline will ring true to anyone who has struggled with siblings as they sort through their parents worldly goods and finances, as I recently have. In 1999, Michael Packham a twenty-six-year-old doctor working in his local hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department receives a letter from a distinguished London law firm, who are seeking to identify the beneficiary of the Last Will and Testament of a former German Panzer tank radio operator who fought against the Allied Forces in the Battle of Normandy in 1944. there was potential here, but this fell very flat for me… when we reached the last 10% of this book, I genuinely expected more given the build up throughout. This time there were even people I could dislike or mistrust which gave the plot a few possibilities of where to turn. If any provision of this agreement (or part of a provision) is found by any court or administrative body of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, unenforceable or illegal, the other provisions shall remain in force. When three members of a family come into a substantial amount of cash on the death of their father, the decisions they must make test their bonds, their marriages (in two cases), their friendships and their memories of how life has affected them in the past as they each seek to get the future right. The argument had escalated, resulting in the man having a beer glass smashed into his face requiring stitches. She threw her arms around my neck and kissed me with such passion and laughed excitedly and said, ‘Yes, yes, yes. When their father dies unexpectedly, siblings Max, Ellie and Nathan can’t even contemplate emptying his house—not least because he spent his last decade curating what feels like a museum to his polished public image. Nathan is in a mess of his own making yet thinks his family should bail him out time and time again and Caroline, well, perhaps she’s just a more virtuous person that me but, crikey, she’s a bit annoying!
