About this deal

So, this is post number 9, which means I’m nearly a third of the way through these books – where has that time gone? It's also a place I can add photos, thoughts and pictures of the cat that I can't file anywhere else! I checked out each of those books with the idea I would attempt "something" and I do have cooking skills, but I walked away with nothing.

But if you’re so inclined, add in 1/3 cup (80 ml) heavy cream at the end of the cooking time, cover and cook on high for 20 minutes. All pressure cookers tested can be used on a gas hob; usable capacity is the maximum amount of food that can be cooked in one go. Many of the recipes used in slow cookers or stews are inexpensive ingredients, including beans, lentils and cheap cuts of meat – and they are deliciously succulent after hours in the pot. Just place the ingredients into the casserole and just leave them to cook while you get on with something else, simple as that. I decided I had so many recipe books that I rarely used and wanted to try some of the recipes rather than sticking to the same few I use every time. What tips would you give, as I have to leave mine on for 9hrs+ due to working day and no way of getting home at lunchtime to switch it on then.

All the recipes for the slow cooker can be prepared in advance and left to cook during the day, so when you get home from work there is a tasty supper waiting for you. It really hit paydirt for me when we got the first of four brace of pheasant from a generous neighbour.Using the slow cooker as a steamer did work really well, especially since it was in a pudding basin rather that cake tin so I’ll keep that in mind for future recipes too. We all know that the months ahead are still going to be tough both for all us as individuals and households but even more so for our farmers and for businesses. Some pressure cookers have a quick steam release valve to reduce pressure quickly at the end of cooking; with the others, you need to either wait five minutes or run cold water over the pan. Once you have put the ingredients into the casserole, you just leave them to cook while you get on with something else. Why not consider getting the old casserole pot out and start slow-cooking the sort of traditional meals that we used to enjoy when ready-meals weren’t around?

I make a lamb pilaf which is delish and the recipe says to add the rice to the slow cooker half an hour before the meat finishes cooking. I am on a plan which doesn't allow me to mix root veg with my chicken, so I was wondering whether I could put a whole chicken into the slow cooker WITHOUT liquid? com founder Martin Lewis has warned that this is one of the biggest practical problems faced by students, with some now not having enough money to live on. I don’t think the flavours are strong enough to maintain interest for a large main course, although the OH said it tasted quite ‘meaty’, and I needed to add cheese to the top, as usual!

Halfway through cooking, heat the remaining oil and butter in a large frying pan and cook the mushrooms until brown. Pressure build-up can be monitored by watching the weight, which spins around on top of the steam vent pipe. My mum in the past made the most amazing chicken in her pressure-cooker; is it possible in a slow cooker? In the meantime though, Emma bought a copy of Antony’s Slow Cooking by Antony Worrall Thompson and tried this recipe, which she liked so much she passed it on to me.
