Bend Her: A Dark Beauty and the Beast Fantasy Romance
About this deal
I liked the idea of him knowing that she would end up being his demise and the reasoning for that aspect of this world. There’s a give and take to their powers, and years of study that go behind what they’re capable to do.
Note: The women are living like this because it prevents mages from teleporting in and kidnapping them. Not that one or the other can't voice both characters but, in this case, it really helped me to image the story play out in my head. At the moments it was giving me vibes of first From blood and ash book, the slow burn and enemies to lovers crafted amazingly! the only way for the FMC to develop her magic is to ignore all of her internal alarms and let the man she thinks has kidnapped her to starve and hit her on a regular basis? The rest of it is “training” and Lisane never reacts in a positive way where she enjoys it so to me it just reads as abuse. Seeing the relationship between Rhaim and Lisandro gradually grow and develop (slow burn for the WIN) was so satisfying, and kept me turning the pages, so eager to find out what would happen! It is a bit slow burn, not not the spiciest novel I have read, as their more intimate interactions are more at the end of the book.
The MMC's pov was meant to explain the magic system to us; that was it, but the author tried to stretch it out, and it made his story feel almost silly. Sadly it is a trilogy so be prepared to be drawn in where you are counting the days until the next one.
The very thing my father had been afraid of for me for my whole life—and the reason I lived in a gilded cage, only getting to leave the palace when I had throne-sworn mages by my side—had apparently happened. I absolutely loved the writing, it was easy to follow and was so enticing, it definitely grasped my attention right off the bat!
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Comunque è un dark romance che penso si possa considerare abbastanza soft e per questo può essere un ottimo primo approccio al genere per chi vuole provarlo. She danced for me, beneath my onslaught, prancing like the proudest pony might, tossing her head as her ass swayed beautifully. I feel like "retelling" is a very generous description, as there is no curse, he is more shifter than beast, there is no strong father/daughter bond, and the castle can be better compared to Howl's Moving Castle. There is a lot of world building and working on what becomes their relationship/friendship/situationship through the story. And so, when a group of soldiers brought a bound and drugged woman to my doorstep, to bribe me to fight in their war, and pulled the bag off of her head and I saw her there-the woman from the vision at my Ascension, and who has haunted my dreams ever since-I knew it was the beginning of my end.
So far I'd give it a 2/5 🌶 rating, but the future installments are going to be MUCH heavier on that aspect and I can't wait.
Though Lisane has lived an incredibly sheltered life, I love how she took advantage of the unfortunate life circumstances she finds herself in and commits to using this imprisonment to become stronger. I thoroughly enjoyed the two narrators for Lisane and Rhaim, they did an incredible job bringing the story to life. A friend of mine who also reviewed this book reviewed the audiobook and she indicates the narrators were fantastic and that helped her love the book even more.
