About this deal

And it is hard not to hear the Prime Minister’s self-excusing voice sounding throughout the narrative of his life. The most egregious chapters relate to Brexit where Bower shows his strongly pro Brexit personal views. Belle évocation aussi du brillant journaliste, un classiciste et tribun redoutable quand il veut convaincre. The onetime Telegraph diarist Quentin Letts is struck that Johnson never passed on any gossip: “He doesn’t notice people’s quirks and their embarrassments,” Letts observes, which Bower puts down to Johnson’s “narcissism”: he’s just not that interested in anyone other than himself. Dip Into NEW PAPERBACKS [jsb_filter_by_tags count="15" show_more="10" sort_by="total_products"/] A selection of recent paperbacks.

No matter that she had forgiven him so much; she had dared to deny him once too often when he demanded unquestioning full-time adulation. and then goes on to claim that it is an outdated language (the book was likely written on a computer running an operating system mostly written in C) and that ‘modern industry best practice’ would require a 15,000 line program to be broken up into 500 source files.

It is symptomatic of the darkness of this book that makes you want to close it and never look at it again. His advisors were shit, the scientists were constantly wrong, and his cabinet was full of idiots (okay that might actually be true). But none of this should be understood as evidence of racism, which for Bower would be “unusual” in a man married “to a half-Indian woman”.

I don’t know if he had a previous relationship with the subject (the acknowledgements suggests not), or fell under Johnson’s spell during the course of writing, but the outcome is a level of bias I would only expect from an autobiography. I was hoping for more detail and insight into Johnson’s own hospitalisation and brush with death as a result of Covid, but all that Bower presents is a rehash of existing information from other sources. It’s really appalling that a work likely to draw so much attention received so little when it came to the editorial department.
