Except "Suggested Reading", I think there is almost no difference between 3rd edition and 4th edition. Ideal for honours students and mathematics majors seeking an alternative to doorstop textbooks and more formidable introductions to real analysis. As well as being a fine description of the basics of analysis (mostly real, with a toe in the deep water of complex functions), it is an excelent book to ease the transition from mathematics as taught at school level to the rigours of university mathematics. For me the best introduction to calculus in one variable, yet absolutely rigurous it is more focussed in explain fundamental concepts in deep that in long full of calculations demostrations;also has some touchs of subtle humour ,some uncommon in a textbook and a lot of remarkable exercises.It is well structured, clear and precises, it made me love the subject because for the first time I saw it presented for the logical wonder it is, and as an assortment of formulas to be used. There are also various resources available to supplement the textbook, such as solution manuals, study guides, and online resources. About half of this course was devoted to algebra and topology, while the other half covered calculus, with the preliminary edition as the text. I have often been told that the title of this book should really be something like “An Introduction to Analysis,” because the book is usually used in courses where the students have already learned the mechanical aspects of calculus—such courses are standard in Europe, and they are becoming more common in the United States.

Considering that this book is a bit old and consequently uses unusual notations, the explanations are extremely good and the author's approach reminds me of the best Leonard Euler's texts. Since the most exciting concepts of calculus do not appear until Part III, it should be pointed out that Parts I and II will probably require less time than their length suggests—although the entire book covers a one-year course, the chapters are not meant to be covered at any uniform rate. In practice, it is usually just a waste of time to solve an equation by indicating so explicitly the reliance on properties Pl, P2, and P3 (or any of the further properties we shall list).
