About this deal

It taught me to recognise many flowers, a lot I remember to this day and her poems accompanying them are charming. The first adventure in the Folio Society editions of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ series, Enid Blyton’s The Enchanted Wood features Jonathan Burton’s enchanting illustrations and a new introduction by Michael Morpurgo.

Years ago I wore out my little Flower Fairy books and it's delightful to be able to replace them - poor broken tatty things that they are - with a big, fancy all inclusive book! She found international acclaim as an artist with her delightful Flower Fairies books the first of which, Flower Fairies of the Spring , was printed in 1923. I first saw this lady's work as a child and learnt the names of many flowers, trees and shrubs from them. Featuring extraordinary illustrations by Clive Hicks-Jenkins and an exclusive introduction by Janina Ramirez, each of the 750 numbered copies has been signed by both contributors. This exclusive Folio collection features 12 classic tales, including The Tale of Peter Rabbit, The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck and The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies.CMB's fairies are full of exuberance and joy (and, sometimes, the gentle pause of contemplation) love of nature and the wonder of childhood. What a wonderful way to learn about the Lady's Smock, Colt's Foot and Celandine, the Primrose and the Dandelion, the Dog Violet and the Daffodil. Printed full-colour throughout, featuring all existing fairy illustrations, plus further decorative line drawings. This book was acquired as a gift for my father and the little figurines we have cherished for over a decade. She was only sixteen when she had her first work accepted for publication as a set of postcards, and from that time she devoted her career to painting.

It's not every day that Killer Aphrodite reviews picture books or children's books, but The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies by Cicely Mary Barker is very special. Her plants and flowers were observed with complete botanical accuracy and in the fairies themselves she captured perfectly the unselfconscious grace of children, whom she used to sketch in her sister's school. Because of ill-health she was educated at home and largely taught herself to draw and paint, encouraged by a supportive family and assisted by membership of the Croydon Art Society. Having all the stories compiled in one volume definitely remains handy, though the format wa a touch off putting at times. My daughter has the earlier version and I purchased the newer version for my niece, as they both adore it.Learning all about the different types of flowers throughout each season with elegant poems by Cicely Mary Barker. This complete collection of Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairies features a brand-new enchanting cover. The Complete Book of the Flower Fairies is a charming book, which will have your little one entertained for hours with the beautiful art work and wonderful poetry. Cicely Mary Barker’s Flower Fairies™ books, published in the first half of last century, are known and loved around the world. I loved the Flower Fairies so much when I was young and now being able to read this with my daughter was such a lovely experience.

Her charming poetry and delicate illustrations have sparked the imaginations of children for over ninety years and continue to inspire a life-long love for fairies and all things magical. Since the publication of Cicely Mary Barker's first book in 1923, the Flower Fairies have been ethereal companions to generations of readers around the world. An important factor to it's charm is that CMB drew the picture and then wrote the poems, truly capturing the personality of it all. The book will serve as the perfect reminder of the time you spent with your mum in the garden, or when you played amongst the flowers and pretended you had your very own fairy friends. The book has the complete collection of poems of Cicely Mary Barker divided in sections with the drawings in great quality and detail.I think it's the sort of book that you read to your children or grandchildren and it becomes a family heirloom and creates wonderful memories. We have the collection as smaller individual copies which also have their charm, sometimes bigger books seem overwhelming and lose the magic, however in this case, all is as it should be.
