Albeit, some of the historical claims are a little dubious (particularly in relation to Alfie's ancestry) but in the wake of such a good story, I can gloss over that one niggle.

When Alfie becomes King he discovers a whole new duty to his country that is steeped in history and kept a secret for many years. My go-to wheels used to always be a Range Rover, but the new Defender is so good, it is literally one of the nicest cars I’ve ever driven. This is not a bad read, barring my inability to really tell whether this is YA or middle grade, the two occasionally overlap and this feels like a good transition point from one to the other.We soon discover his true identity and are swept up in a tale of mythical creatures, ancient history and stroppy teenagers.

While the action is key in a story like this, the characters and their relationships with each other is where this story shines. The second book in the series DEFENDER OF THE REALM: DARK AGE was published in June 2017 and the thrilling conclusion to the trilogy, DEFENDER OF THE REALM: KING'S ARMY is published 7th June 2018 by Scholastic.There isn't a chapter that drives away from the plot, something is always happening, you start and finish in the action which isn't easy to accomplish. Here they witness a violent attack from an other-worldly creature like a giant lizard, who defeats the UK’s superhero protector known as the Defender of the Realm. Alfie tries desperately to learn the ropes but unaware that there is danger is on the horizon, an epic battle beyond anyone’s imagination awaits him. The first thing that comes to mind when I think about the original Land Rover Defender is British engineering and the new Defender is no different. It`s about Alfie, heir to the throne, as he assumes his new role and discovers he must also become a superhero/vigilante figure known as the Defender, who deals with the mythical creatures that have caused all of the disasters in British history.
