About this deal

After reading this book, I have realized that I have an obsession with food and I would almost indulge in food even when I wasn't hungry. I also liked that this book focused on the science behind hunger and cravings and how to work around them. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

If you're someone who deals with the same thing of food being an almost obsession or you secretly binge eat on food, get this book!

I don’t know why I always get suckered into reading these books (probably because I’m fat lol) because they all turn out the same. Shah constructs a comprehensive 5-step plan grounded in understanding the biological forces influencing our relationship with food.

Shah wants you to focus on making yourself healthy and happy first by meeting your basic nutritional needs. I'm So Effing Hungry" provides practical advice that is both vegan-friendly and inclusive of animal-based protein, making it an adaptable resource for readers with diverse dietary preferences. I thought this book did a great job of explaining gut health and how to reduce/eliminate sugar cravings. I understand that we live in an extremely sensitive culture where no one likes to take responsibility, but c'mon! If you are a caregiver and don't have hours in your day that are your own to exercise, there's not a lot of help here. The recipes weren’t much to my taste either- they’re mostly plant-based which is fine and even good, but they just didn’t spark joy or excitement for me in terms of feeling like I wanted to eat the food. Both books are on the free Libby app, but both were so good that I ended up purchasing both on Kindle b/c I was taking so many notes--and with Kindle--it's easier to just highlight directly from text. Acknowledging the struggles of obtaining sufficient protein solely from plant sources, the author, predominantly plant-based herself, offers a refreshing perspective. Cravings aren’t your fault and eating a healthier diet isn’t just a matter of self-discipline or willpower. This book is so good that I went and bought the Kindle version of this, after I listened to the audio version via the Libby app (and I also purchased Shah's other book, Why Am I So Effing Tired?

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. There’s a menu and a suggestion of a variety of foods meant to fill you up or trigger one nerve or the other to help with satiety.I’m glad I read it and it makes me want to read more like this- about the science of food and dieting etc.
