About this deal

Because Gansai colors were formulated to use on rice papers, they don’t flow like most Western watercolors. Like other gansai, the paints are placed in large, shallow pans (as oriental brushes are usually quite large). Turning off the personalised advertising setting won’t stop you from seeing Etsy ads, but it may make the ads you see less relevant or more repetitive. Your review helped me understand the comments I’ve read and I am now going to be happily playing with these.

These watercolours are amazing, don’t get me wrong, but the Kissho paints take gansai to a whole new level. One of them with average blur or absorbency ( GASEN) for more precise lines, the other with more pronounced blur ( HONGASEN) for artistic effects. Enjoy 35 shades of Gansai in your art practice , the Japanese alter-ego to European watercolours - also similar to gouaches. WAVE: Currents in Japanese Graphic Arts presents the rich diversity of Japanese illustration and graphic arts through the works of both 20th-century innovators and emerging artists alike.Hatoba - Usually translated to mean blue-black in the context of colour, but literally translating to ‘pigeon wing’, this bold pink references the lighter parts of pigeon feathers. I have bought much cheaper watercolours in the past, just for ‘doodling’, so I wanted to know what it felt like to use a more expensive collection. Originally used with large Japanese brushes on rice paper for quick and efficient paintings or underpaintings, they perform better when used wet on dry paper. These Kuretake-Gansai Tambi Watercolour Sets are filled with traditional Japanese watercolours for professional artists and crafters alike.

Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions. I have tried various metallic paints, brush pens and even metallic inks in the past, yet none come close in quality to these two pans! This is traditionally favoured as it dissolves easily in water and is absorbed into deeper layers of the paper when the paint dries. Because the binder adhesion in gansai is weaker, the colours are also easier to lift (removing with a wet brush to lighten an area). These take a little more water to activate than the other colours, but they still feel silky and fluid in use. Enji - Shortened from enjimushi which is the Japanese name for the insect from which the deep red dye carmine is derived. As with all the other paint colours, the pigment easily collects on the brush with a bit of water, and is completely opaque on paper (as you can see on the above swatches).

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The set comes in an attractive mustard-yellow fabric box, making it a perfect gift for someone with an artistic side.

Palette and Colour chart included] Within each Gansai Tambi set is a protective sheet that not only keeps your pans from shifting but can be used as a palette mixer. These high quality paints, made in Japan by a 100 year old paint maker, can be used directly out of the box with a wet paintbrush - either thinly in translucent washes, or by layering for a bolder effect. though that was the postage I had to pay, Never the less it arrived well packed in a ridged envelope, which I will recycle. Over the last couple of years, I have grown to love using Oriental gansai watercolours alongside my usual Western watercolours.
