Jenson Button: Life to the Limit: My Autobiography
About this deal
Where How To Be An F1 Driver scores is in opening up an understanding just how much work ethic is involved in ever getting established in the elite sport. Jenson’s father John was a huge influence on his life and the section of the book that describes John’s death is very heart felt. F1, FORMULA ONE, FORMULA 1, FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, GRAND PRIX and related marks are trade marks of Formula One Licensing B. This book doesn’t go into too much of the nitty gritty details of things (something I’m sure his other two biographies might do more), and just reading it certainly won’t make you F1 driver ready (you’ll still need the years of karting, junior formula and tens of millions of pounds spent for that), but it is a lot of fun and gives an interesting insight into “formulaoneville”.
I noticed numerous grammar mistakes and the occasional missing word which I’m not going to mark the book down on because obviously it’s not Jenson’s fault. I'm not a F1 driver, so am in no position to argue with anything Button has to say about competitive driving at that level. And to get to 10,000 hours in a sport that is both expensive and time consuming you must have a huge level of parental support.

Button opens up about the realities of life on the Formula One circuit which looks fabulous and glamorous from the outside. Although very hard-hitting, it was also an exceptionally eye-opening chapter on the basis that I firmly believed his dad had died of a heart attack. Along the way there's all the advice that may be useful to aspiring racers, all the stuff he wished he'd known years ago.He goes through his career through each of the levels and formulas, becoming F1 champion with Brawn before seeking a new challenge at Mercedes and eventually retiring. But not only that you get a look into his life growing up and as he moved through the ranks of Motorsport.
