About this deal

If you don’t know who Joe is then please do seek him out on social media as he will definitely make you laugh and smile whilst raising awareness of one of our most taboo subjects, suicide, who’d have known that was possible?

He is supremely polite, slightly geeky and wears T-shirts that show off his elaborately tattooed arms (and disguise his self-harm scars).View image in fullscreen ‘My adult career has been trying to undo everything I taught myself about how to be like my dad’ . In 2003, he was the British junior magical champion and was named the most promising comedy act by Ken Dodd. So I was looking forward to this print 'extended version', if you will, whilst hoping there might be some nuggets of use to someone I love.

Joe's likability and humour that you can see on TV come across in the book, and I enjoyed the autobiographical element of hearing about Joe's life.

Has someone who recently got diagnosed, I’m not at a stage where I’ve completely accepted it, but this book helped a lot. I didn’t know how to talk to another person without getting a deck of cards out or without entertaining. I don't owe Joe Tracini my life, but I do owe him for the silly joy of his captivatingly cringy dance videos in lockdown.

Joe Tracini travels to the horrible heart of his abominable illness and unflinchingly examines the misery it has heaped upon him and everyone around him. All these posts and pages on this site are written by people who live with BPD each and every day, so anything you read here will often be the cold hard truth, but it will also be respectful and well mannered. There are some very fine passages (which I note he's reading aloud as part of the publicity for the book) He has trenchant things to say about the limits of the opening up of public discourse around mental illness (it's OK to talk about it, not considered OK to manifest it). I love coming back to Norwich each year, so I am gonna be doing my first sharing of bits of it in Stage Two if you’d like to come along and see it. In my opinion, this book is a must-read for anyone trying to better understand other people's experiences, and to really appreciate that you can never, ever tell what a person may be going through just by looking at them. I love Joe's honest videos and his hilarious dance routines and commentaries and found the first half of the book engaging and insightful. Norwich Theatre Royal, Playhouse and Stage Two are part of Norwich Theatre, the operating name of Theatre Royal (Norwich) Trust Limited.
