Last Time We Met: A heart-warming and emotional will-they-won’t-they friends-to-lovers romance for 2022
About this deal
Two strangers met in a foreign land and spent all of 4 days together and that had an impact and finally destroyed their future relationship with other people? A veterinarian gains psychometric powers during a meteor shower and uses them to help a police detective solve minor cases. diamond ear studs she bolts off, leaving him standing in the middle of the street, running after a man she thought is her long lost 4-day former lover?
The story presents two equally compelling potential endings, but the actual ending was, for me, the only viable one. She slept with a married man, Patrick, had 4 days together but that didn't stop her to shamefully ask him to leave his wife for her. The evolution of their relationship seemed formulaic, however what saved this book for me was the family dynamics. I would have liked to see more honest conversations with Eleanor and her younger sister to show that not everyone in her life treated her like that.Esta novela me encantó por que tiene personajes muy reales, que te transmiten sentimientos, que te hacen preguntarte y replantearte un montón de cosas acerca del amor y los sacrificios que aveces se hacen en nombre de él. Houghton also presents a lovely set of secondary characters, to the people Eleanor meets in art class to her gorgeous sister Freya and wonderful, slightly eccentric mum Angela. Eleanor recently broke up with her long-time boyfriend, and Fin broke up with his girlfriend so he can go back to the UK to see his dying mother.
Even so, despite the breakneck speed with which this year has zipped past, the high note it ended on gives me absolutely no regrets. Fifteen years ago in the colourful bustle of Vietnam, Celine and Patrick met and shared four blissful days together. We follow them both as they make new friends, paint, take photographs, work, flirt and keep bumping into each other.
Maybe that was what happened when you had your heart broken… it grew back harder and more protected than before. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. This is a friends to lovers sort of romance that manages to be both funny and heart-warming all at the same time. I was surprised by the ending, but relieved by it too - I just was doubting that it was going to happen! Putting my worth and happiness into the hands of everybody else instead of trusting that I am enough, just as I am.
The Love Market is absolutely one of the best Chick Lit novels out there and definitely a perfect read for the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday. Retrospective to some fifteen years earlier, Celine met her lost first true love, Patrick during a holiday in Sa Pa.They both shake hands and feel rather proud that, no matter what happens, they will at least be saved from a future alone. The themes of family, forgiveness, loss, and grief were so thoughtfully portrayed throughout the whole storyline. I found it deeply touching because I myself identify with the story in some ways, so this film is then that but expanded. I was very taken with Patrick and Celine’s romance and wished the story had focused exclusively on that as well as Celine’s marriage with Mike. Celine is a very intelligent woman--one who has begun her own business as a specialist in being a modern match-maker, one who reads people well but who can't seem to figure out her own feelings and hopes for the future.
