About this deal
Having already tested out the excellent Ryobi Silent shredder, I knew what to expect from a big beast of a machine like this. We are still trying to verify exactly what has happened and will update this post when we know more. It can quickly work its way through a mini mountain of hedge clippings, leaving you with fine shredded wood that can have a number of uses around the garden. It's simple to use, with easy controls and a reverse function if branches get stuck and it grabs and pulls in material easily. This impact shredder will chomp through their branches, leaves and all, as long as they fit in the infeed slot.
In a previous post we looked at the best compost shredders in the USA as part of our compost tools series.
If it was a small handheld garden power tool, I’d just add it to the tool kit and pull it out when needed. Users queue up to applaud the way this cheap ’n’ chunky chaff chewer gulps down branches up to 40cm in diameter and then farts them out into a large 50-litre box as little wooden chips. If you are in a hurry, I can summarise this review by just saying that the PWS01A remains our current quiet shredder of the year. Just be sure to lop off any nubs and stalks beforehand and give it time to complete its task before stuffing in another branch.
It can chew up branches and other woody garden materials up to 45 mm thick and doesn’t make a lot of noise. It is heavy though, at 27kg, and is not the easiest to move around and it would be difficult to lift if you needed to get it up and down steps.
We’ve also seen a complaint that the collection box doesn’t compact the shredder material and that the machine stops when the collection box is full.
Just note, at the time of writing, the LSRL PWS01A was cheaper then the Einhell or the Bosch impact shredders. It has a reverse button if material gets stuck, a safety switch, a round plunger for pushing material into the funnel and a long, 10m orange cable that's easy to see. Garden shredders aren’t designed for this purpose, and shredding cardboard can damage the blades or mechanism, meaning it may not work as well in the future. The blade spins fast to avoid any blockages, and it can run for up to hours continuously without a hitch. It has a long, 10m orange cable that's easy to see and comes with a good sized collection bag that attaches to two hooks on the side to catch the shreddings as they fall.It comes with a block release system that solves any blockage instantly without shutting down or needing to remove the hopper.
