About this deal

The series was originally published by Gorilla Comics, a company formed by Waid, Kurt Busiek and several others, but the company folded after only two issues were published. After this strong arc, the rest of the collection becomes a mixed bag with the one-off Aquaman story and two-part Abra Kadabra battle. So Barry Allen got his Flash powers from a one in a million accident where lightning struck a shelf of chemicals and him and then stuff happened to Flashify the dude. Waid tells a good story with a twist that manages to avoid forcing Wally towards a pre-determined outcome.

luckily (in a sense), dc hasn't had a decent flash arc in over ten years, so it's really easy to ignore all the recent stuff. He paints a picture of a kid who was ignored by his parents but had a special relationship with his aunt Iris, who was also his best friend. Yet Linda Park- a character with tremendous potential- is almost always reduced to either a sex symbol or a hysterical pawn to give Wally something to brood about- monster of the week villains are often accompanied by an alternatively attention-starved needy Linda or a matronly, overbearing one to give Wally dimension, her clothes are never appropriate for her profession, and she's constantly giving up jobs and autonomy to support Wally West. Mark Waid is like the Stan Lee of the 1990s, only nerdier, minus the glasses, and much more self-deprecating and less self-promotional.

Not only does this arc have Wally facing off against a villain it also puts a strain on his relationship with Linda. While this starts of with a couple one shots and ends with an Aquaman team-up and a battle with Abra Kadabra, it's what's between those stories that really stands out.

Once again it took the combined help of all his friends to stave off Savitar, with his newfound powers Wally was able to supercharge his friends by lending speed. Dead Heat" was a crossover with IMPULSE and saw the introduction of Savitar, the self professed God of Speed. So when a little town in California hears about this, they recruit him to come be the hero of their city. Thing is I've been a fan of animated Flash (Wally West) from DCAU and the animaed movies and I want the Flash that is most like the animated version. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. In this first volume of a new series, Young Wally West is quickly in danger—not only from The Flash's enemies, but from powers that he doesn't know how to control! It allows for not only Wally's thoughts and emotions to come across, but allows the reader to step inside the Flash to see what it's like when Wally bends the laws of physics.

This was my Flash, simply because I started reading DC Comics in the mid-1980s, after Crisis on Infinite Earths and to me, Barry Allen's sacrificial death was a fait accompli and Wally was the Flash and a full-fledged member of the Justice League (aka Justice League International, later Justice League America). And the New52 is a good place to jump on, especially if you like the tv show, and all in all the run by Francis Manupaul (which starts off the current series) was decent (starts rough but each new arc got progressively better), but its not anywhere close to being on the level of Waid or Johns. With the threat of Kobra looming over Keystone City, it will take the entire Flash family to overcome this battle. See he remembered someone coming to talk to him during a really hard moment in his life on this specific day, but he had no idea it was actually HIM.In April 2023, it was announced that Waid would be writing two new projects for DC set to launch in July 2023.

As someone who is regularly on the receiving end of such an overwhelming truck of an emotion, it is somewhat cathartic to actually read about it on page as written by someone who clearly understands how you feel. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. The first comic is The Flash Special, a celebration of the multi-generational look at the three Flashes (Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, and Wally West). As I have been reading these collections, I have also been keeping up with Waid’s current monthly gigs on Captain America and The Avengers. In 2014, Waid launched new series for Daredevil and The Hulk with artists Chris Samnee [56] and Mark Bagley [57] respectively. It took me awhile because I'll be honest, It is/was hard for me to go further back in time because things are a product of their age. It wouldn’t be until Geoff Johns’ work on JSA that we would finally get to know Jesse as both her Quick persona and Liberty Belle one as well.
