It might be something to think about though I still can't quite work out how it happened in the first place. Go to a motor factors like Halfords in the UK (or something similar where you are) and they should be able to supply you with some Mini (old classic Mini) exhaust rubber mounts, cheap as chips and similar to Norton stuff apart from a radiused centre.
