About this deal

Richard, Rishi, as I understand Baseline ISO or Native ISO is the Sensitivity (according to the Standards) that passively collect Photons. No gain, No Amplification. We haven’t finalised our full Sony A7R V review yet, but we’re already confident that it’s one of the very best cameras out there. The A7R III also feels more rounded than the models that go before it. Its autofocusing system is impressive so it’s even suitable for shooting sport. The very best focusing system, however, is in the A7R V which has 693 phase detection points and the very latest subject detection options which include Human (Right/Left Eye Select) / Animal (Right/Left Eye Select) / Bird / Insect / Car / Train / Airplane, all of which work in stills and video mode. A fully articulating screen like the one of the A7S III is really the gold standard for video shooting (albeit a divisive one for stills shooters), and it's about time we saw one on an A7-series camera. 6. Interface In addition, Sony has introduced new/improved codecs including XAVC S-I 4K (All-Intra), XAVC HS 4K (Long GOP) and XAVC S 4K (Long GOP), plus there’s S-Log2 and S-Log3 and improved S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.Cine colour science.

The A7s Mark II takes the 12 Megapixel full-frame sensor of the A7s and fits it into the updated body of the Mark II Alpha A7 series. So it inherits the upgraded viewfinder, built-in stabilisation, chunkier grip and repositioned controls last seen on the A7r Mark II; indeed place them side by side and they look physically identical other than their model names. With video in mind, the AF/MF section of the menu has an option to adjust the focusing speed to suit your subject. There are 7 AF Transitions Speed settings running from 1 (slow) to 7 (fast). Battery consumption is often an issue with mirrorless cameras, the A7S III uses the Sony NP-FZ100 rechargeable battery which lasts for about 60% longer than the A7S II’s battery. It enables up to 95 minutes of video to be recorded instead of 60minutes with the A7S II and around 600 images to be captured (when the LCD is used) instead of 370. Also, thanks to the faster readout and processing, the A7S III is said to suffer from minimal rolling shutter (jello) effect. 4K Full-sensor readout My friend I told you we are looping in nonsense here anything from NASCAR, IndyCar, F1, Dragsters IS RWD! Another significant change that Sony has made with the A7R V in comparison with earlier models is that as well as being slightly larger (3.2-inches vs 3-inches) and higher-resolution (2,095,104-dots vs 1,440,000-dots), the A7R V’s screen is mounted on a 4-way tilting mechanism. It’s like a tilting and vari-angle screen combined whereas the A7R IV has a standard tilting screen.

New to the A7s Mark II is the ability to record 4k video in-camera, due to superior processing and it also debuts an uncompressed 14 bit RAW option for stills, which is now also available to the A7r Mark II in a firmware update. The maximum sensitivity is a huge 409600 ISO and the addition of S-Log 3 promises a higher dynamic range for grading. It’s possible to switch the camera between NTSC and PAL modes, opening up all frame rate options but doing so involves a reboot and reformatting of the memory card – I believe to conform with AVCHD standards. If you set the camera to a mode that’s not native to its original location – for example setting an American model to PAL or a British model to NTSC – then it’ll remind you of your foreign preference every time you power-up, demanding an OK press to continue. While offering a useful reminder, this can get annoying over time, so I’d prefer if Sony had an option to disable it – after all, the working frame rate is still displayed on-screen so I don’t think many DPs will get caught-out. This reminder is common across all Sony cameras which let you switch regions. That’s a nice improvement on the A7 III which doesn’t have 10-bit colour nor 4K 60p capability and applies a 1.2x crop to 4K 30p footage. When it comes to power, the new Z battery delivers what Sony claims to be a 60% performance improvement over the Sony A7S Mark II's NP-FW50, wh Sony has made a number of small design improvements to the A7S III, which collectively bring it in line with the very similar Sony A7R IV. Further good news is that Sony has extended the use of touch control which is of course particularly useful with a video camera when you want to make silent settings adjustments. It’s even possible to navigate the main menu and make setting selections by touch on the screen. The Clear Image Zoom function effectively digitally doubles the zoom range of the attached lens, using Sony's Pixel Super Resolution Technology to increase the magnification. The Auto Object Framing mode uses face detection and the rule of thirds to automatically crop and create more tightly framed shots. The same Pixel Super Resolution Technology ensures that the resulting image is still a full 12 megapixels in size, and the original uncropped image is also saved for easy comparison.

Sony internal test. 25 deg C (ambient, camera when recording started), Auto Power Off Temperature: High. The value will vary depending on the shooting conditions. Interesting someone has come up with a list of Fuji cameras exactly describing their role. Not so for Sony." The A7S's EVF system also performs very well indoors in low light, typically the scourge of most EVFs which have to "gain-up" to produce a usable picture, resulting in a noticeably grainier picture. The A7S doesn't suffer from this unwanted effect at all, making its electronic viewfinder the equal of and in many areas better than a DSLR's optical viewfinder. The truest testament to the A7S is that we almost exclusively used it by holding it up to eye-level, something that we wouldn't do unless the EVF was of sufficient quality. The FX3 also has the same 13-hour maximum continuous recording time as the A7S III. All of which means that card capacities and battery life are likely to be more of a limiting factor than overheating. 5. The FX3 has built-in thread holes for accessoriesBut Sony says that its electronic Clear Image Zoom function –which lets you get 2x zoom with any lens by intelligently creating pixels, rather than simply cropping – is very popular with pro filmmakers, and this function will also work with the FX3's zoom lever. 4. The FX3 has cooling fans for longer record times

As you’d expect, the A7S III has 10bit S-Log 2 and 3 available. According to Sony, in S-Log3 the results it produces match those from the Sony PXW-FX9. Whether or not you need a 10-bit full-frame video camera is another matter –if depends on where you're planning to publish your videos and how much grading you tend to do. An 8-bit camera like the A7S II may still be fine for your needs, and it's also worth bearing in mind that there are more affordable 10-bit cameras (albeit with smaller sensors) than the A7S III, such as the Panasonic GH5. 3. Design As well as recording to a UHS-II SD card or a CFexpress Type A card in the memory port, the A7S III can output 16-bit raw 4K 60p footage via its HDMI 2.1 connection to an Atomos Ninja V. It’s worth remembering here that 60p is the maximum framerate supported by HDMI 2.1. Colour Of course, the biggest handling change made by the A7S III is the introduction of a vari-angle screen. This is a first for a Sony A7 camera and one that I welcome wholeheartedly.

Overview

But again it’s important to consider the question of coverage and lens compatibility. The A7s II, due to its 12 Megapixel sensor, can only film 4k with the full-frame coverage – there is no crop option for 4k as there’s simply insufficient pixels. So you’ll need to use full-frame lenses on the A7s II for 4k video although you will enjoy their full coverage. Of course, time and photo tech marches on, and it felt like no time at all before the a7 earned itself an upgrade in the form of the Sony Alpha 7 II. The sequel kept a lot of the components of its predecessor – if it ain’t broke, as they say – but with the principal addition of 5-axis image stabilisation. Designed to reduce image blur by compensating for camera-shake, this system will be familiar to anyone who has used the Olympus OM-D E-M1 or E-M5. By compensating not only for pitch and yaw movements but also vertical, horizontal and rotational movements, the system ensures better stabilisation than any in-lens system could hope to achieve. The Sony A7S's maximum shutter speed is 30 seconds and there's also a Bulb mode for even longer exposures, which is excellent news if you're seriously interested in night photography. The shot below was taken using a shutter speed of 30 seconds at ISO 100. However, Sony hasn’t given the A7C the A7S III’s revised menu structure or its excellent touch-control. Also as a 0.39-inch type, A7C’s viewfinder is also pretty small for a full-frame camera.
