For this test, I used a selection of LUTs from BounceColour. Once loaded into the Ninja V, you can then select them for the monitor, and the effect is then applied to the footage.

ATOMOS Ninja V is a video monitor that has been designed to provide you with crystal clear 8K footage, which you can use to create a cinema-quality film or high-resolution gaming footage. With access to a number of codecs including Apple ProRes, ProRes Raw and Avid DNx HR, you have a massive amount of creative freedom at your fingertips due to the RAW high-resolution footage with this Atomos Monitor. The ATOMOS Ninja V is an ideal monitor for budding filmmakers, the recording capabilities alone make it a must-have upgrade from the Atomos Shinobi monitor unit. Yes, there is an increase in file sizes over standard footage recorded internally, but it’s a price worth paying for the boost in quality that you can see. Changing white balance, altering colors, rescuing highlights and shadows are all much easier on ProRes files. It’s worth pointing out here that the Ninja V doesn’t update your cameras recording settings, so if your camera is set to 1080p, then that is the resolution that will feed through to the Ninja V. Regardless of how you plan to use the Ninja, you'll want to think about some add-ons. A battery is one. Atomos doesn't include one; instead you just get a power supply so you can plug the Ninja into a wall outlet. That's fine for use in a studio, but you'll need a battery to work with it in the field. 8K Resolution

On-monitor recording is a godsend! Seriously, this has saved my butt once already when the SD card in one of my cameras corrupted and was entirely unrecoverable. I didn't lose a single video because the monitor stored them on the SSD in full quality. Capture Apple ProRes RAW video with the Ninja V, and experience complete control over the video image. Benefiting from the ability to capture RAW video allows you to edit and colour grade footage without compromising the quality of the footage you have captured. And for HDR, Log shooting or anamorphic, it offers far more control and accuracy than you could ever get out of the camera itself. The less than ideal form factor and handling of interchangeable lens cameras (ILC) have led many manufacturers to design handy and innovative solutions for video; from housings, mics, handles, and of course, monitors.

Ninja can capture RAW HDMI inputs up to 6K at 30fps and simultaneously output a standard viewable video signal via HDMI for devices that don’t support RAW formats. The alternative is a standard SSD such as the Lexar NQ100 or Samsung 870 EVO that I’ve looked at recently. These pop inside a caddy that Atomos provides with the Ninja V. The display is easily visible in even direct sunlight. If Sony would provide camera bodies with 1000nit displays, I would be soooo happy! I’ve already covered LUTs, but again it’s a major advantage and with the options, you can either preview the footage with the LUT applied or baked it in. Likewise, if I shift to the Zyiyun Crane 3S with Smallrig handle, I can again bolt the monitor with another friction control arm.We are also delighted to announce that the Ninja V+ will be able to record 8Kp30 ProRes RAW when connected to a Canon EOS R5 mirrorless camera. The ability to mount the Atomos Ninja V is a major feature and gives you plenty of flexibility in various shooting locations. I would recommend using a cage around your camera as this further extends the mount options, but also enables you to fix down the cables which are essential if you’re moving about. Mirrorless cameras offer incredible video quality but by adding a monitor like the Atomos Ninja V, you turn them into far more usable video cameras. The larger screen is much easier to see, compose with and has tools to help you expose and focus correctly.
