About this deal

Using pure white, edge highlight the blade, and the inner cleft of the blade, as well as the power nodes Forget the maroon scheme of modern Word Bearers or the “Gal Vorbak Red” shade you can get from Forge World – the Word Bearers of 2nd edition were a much brighter shade of red. Other Details: So here’s the fun part. I tend to match the non-armor details to what the Marine’s parent chapter would have used, colors-wise. That means that Ultramarines get gold aquilas on their chest armor, while say, Blood Angels get white/gray aquilas. Building Character Firstly, I just wanted to say I don’t paint straight from the pot. I prefer to use an old white tile and I always add water to my paints, even when I’m using Lahmian Medium (Glaze Medium).

Caledor Sky– A bright, vibrant shade of blue that would pair perfectly with Kantor Blue. Imagine them as two sides of the same coin, or two notes in the same chord. Caledor Sky would be great for adding pops of colour and contrast, helping to draw the eye and add visual interest. I wanted to do my Custodes in NMM (Non metallic metal) but also wanted something I could replicate across a whole army without losing the will to live. After many hours of watching people wet blend / glaze etc I came up with this. It’s not the most realistic gold but I think it looks good and most importantly doesn’t take too long. People have described it as “cell shaded” which I like. The process is the same for vehicles or infantry, I just use an airbrush on the vehicles (but exactly the same colours and steps). The steps are quite repetitive and it looks a mess almost right until the end so keep persevering with it Golds Basecoat all areas with the following colors: Enchanted Blue, Blood Red, Sunburst Yellow, Snot GreenThere is a lot more of this on your jetbikes. Here only the gauntlets are leather. I used VMC Cavalry brown, making sure to avoid the red cloth on the underside of his forearms and the gold detailing. I then washed the leather with Agrax Earthshade. Shade all the Eshin Grey joint areas of the armour and silver details with NuIn Oil. Take care to keep it off the Kantor Blue coloured armour, to avoid unwanted tide marks.

As I mentioned above, my Krulboyz hero scheme is based on the Blue-Tongued skink. Initially I was going to carry the blue spot color motif forward onto the heroes, but ultimately decided that that didn’t make as much narrative sense. The Hobgrots are subservient to the larger Kruleboyz. Instead, I decided to carry the Hobgrotz skin forward as the leather worn by the hero. It’s a vicious society and any Hobgrot that steps out of line is turned into hides. Purity Seal – Base with Khorne Red and Ushabti Bone. Shade with Agrax Earthshade. Highlight with Wazdakka Red and Ushabti Bone. Add lines of writing in thinned Eshin Grey. Step 6 – Weathering The only time I feel alive is when I'm painting. Vincent Van Gogh

Color ChartsThe Metal Arm: The Deathwatch arms are done with a layer of Leadbelcher shaded with Drakenhof Nightshade to give it a colder steel tone. Then I highlight/edge highlight with Runefang steel and Necron Compound. So, after looking through this document, I found that the document has some discrepancies between it and the chart here one of which is the "Bleached Bone" example here; Citadel's Bleached Bone has an equivalent Model Color of "Buff" (976) according to Vallejo. http://www.wargamesfoundry.com - also do a range of similar to Citadel paints, will update when can get chance. The next step is the real secret sauce. I created a reasonably dilute wash with a mix of Golden High Flow Acrylics Sepia (pretty much a more concentrated Agrax Earthshade), Golden High Flow Acrylics Dioxazine Purple, and the product formerly known as Future Floor Polish (Now Pledge Floor Care Finish, unless they’ve changed it again.) I wash the entire model in this color, removing excess where it pools too much. If you are working with Games Workshop paints, a mix of Druchii Violet, Agrax Earthshade and water/lahmian medium will work just fine. You will, however, be spending a lot more money to wash an entire army of Custodes using this method. At this point the gold is complete. It’s simple, but has a nice rich depth and purplish warmth to it.
