About this deal

All right, let us now take a closer look at the Nikon SB-910, the once crowned king of flash… At least within the Nikon range itself. The Godox X1T-N transmitter is where you select either TTL or manual power for the flash operating mode for what ever group you have assigned to your SB910. Ways that allow one to set the remote flashgun at the camera - either in its menus or on a control unit on the hotshoe The distance between a light source and a subject is calculated in feet and has an impact on the size of the area illuminated. I hope so, because if it doesn't, those videos on youtube of professional photoshoots with it cause me to scratch my head in confusion.

There is almost no audible noise from the inverter as it recycles; just a light noise if you used much power and then it goes silent. This professional SB-910 is aimed at full-time sports and news shooters who need as much power as fast as possible, and are bouncing it, using diffusers, and shooting at much longer distances than the rest of us shoot our family photos. Personally, I prefer the tiny Nikon SB-400 since I want a small flash for use as fill-flash, and velcro my own gels over the flash as needed. If you use a Nikon DSLR (series or above) and the compatibile Speedlight (SB-700, SB-5000, and a few other models such as the SB-900), you can sync the flash to the camera’s shutter speeds up to 18 stops.you say that with the Godox speedlights there is no preflash, what about with the godox TTL monolights? - I cant remember the model names- the new ones that everyone is raving about at the moment? It seems the only way to do that, and indeed the way I do it, is to use a manual wireless trigger, and set the settings on the flashgun. There are two sequences shown here. The first is for the Nikon D4, and just for good measure, the Nikon D700. The results remain consistent between the two cameras.

Nothing interesting on both sides too, just the battery compartment – Takes 4 AA batteries. But know that the head rotates around 180° and is able to tilt from -7° to 90°. The only initial struggle I had was with the rather complicated controls and menu system – Nothing too bad, and watching a few YouTube tutorials “fixed” that. Also on the plus side, I must give credits to the rather accurate TTL that the SB-910 offers. It is an official Nikon after all. When I need more than one flash for serious lighting, I don't bother with these battery-powered things and use real studio strobes, which cost less and work so much better. That’s all for this review, and here is a small section on some extras and links that may be useful to you.

Does An Sb 600 Have A High Speed Sync?

Exposure accuracy comes from your camera and your own technique; it's not a function of the flash. The camera controls the flash in i-TTL mode. In the second instance, we are talking about manual wireless triggers, or an optical trigger system, or a very long cable. In these instances the gun is set however you want. In these systems, a Nikon flashgun if set to manual mode will not preflash. Lenses – Should have no marks on the elements andoptically clear. There may be light dust present that will not effect theimagery. This is a half-stop less than advertised, which ia actually quite impressive, as all previous Japanese flashes have measured a full stop less than advertised, so the SB-910 actually has a half-stop more power than I expected. The zoom automatically adjusts to your lens, and smarter than earlier flashes, also adjusts for FX or DX.

There is an excellent basic guide of how to take various kinds of pictures, as well as the larger manual that's mostly legal notices. But take note of the other setting – The flash head is set to 35mm zoom so that it lights up a wider and not further area. The YongNuo and Godox are able to reach much further because the flash head is set to a narrowly focused beam of light at 105mm.

Cameras – LCD screen is heavily worn either by de-lamination or has scratches to it. Rubber grips are starting to come away from the body. I miss the dedicated LCDs of flashes like the SB-600, which are much sharper, cleaner and clearer than the less-legible dot-matrix displays of newer flashes like this SB-910 and the SB-700. These are the number of full-power dumps Nikon claims you can get if you wait as long as 30 seconds for it to recycle. In actual automatic use, you'll get thousands of flashes depending on your distance, since less power is used for each pop. The sequence for the Nikon D700 follows the same pattern. I did use 200 ISO instead of 100 ISO, and therefore bumped my aperture down to f/8
