Nursery rhymes are particularly important during the early years. They help children to develop their communication skills in a simple and fun way. string(5170) " A set of 24 character figures for use as visual aids in telling Bible stories to children aged 3 and over, encouraging them to listen and be involved. In just a few weeks’ time, 1000’s of Early Years educators around the world will be taking part in World Nursery Rhyme Week – a global initiative launched in 2013 which promotes the importance of nursery rhymes in early childhood development. I recommend arriving with the same 15 items for a few sessions, so that the children learn how it works. Once they’re confident with the process, you can start to swap new items in to keep the song session fresh. I would only add 2 or 3 new toys at a time, though, so that the children aren’t overwhelmed. They’ll also have their favourites that they’ll miss if they don’t appear! Ours were The Wheels on the Bus and Sleeping Bunnies. The children wanted these every week!
It’s also so crucial to introduce clapping and actions with these familiar songs, as those help to teach a sense of rhythm and steady beat too. So a lovely little combination of both should encourage lots of love and joy for more nursery rhymes and singing time together.The simple rhythm and repetition within these interactive nursery rhythm activities make them easy to commit to memory. Helping children develop their memory and attention skills are great for building the foundation children need to be confident readers!
Make a nursery rhyme singing basket for babies, toddlers and preschoolers to enjoy singing their favourite songs with parents and care-givers! Fantastic for early language development and creativity for the very smallest children and a great activity for children learning English as an additional language too. There are lots more things that you could add and we may take some out and put others in when we find them and think of some more favourites soon!
Following on from our BESTSELLING toddler Resource the 'Sing with Me Bag' we are so excited to launch our latest nursery rhyme bag, made especially for groups that are re-opening! "Come on, it's time to get moving!" The children can each have a butterfly at the start of the story and as their colour is mentioned in our ‘Easter Butterfly Poem’ the child can take their turn in making the butterfly dance and fly! As the poem continues, the children can keep on joining in, gradually building up the number of butterflies to a big finale with a rainbow of colour!
