About this deal

Crispin Goldreich [CS] Senator, Chair of the Budget Commission and member of the Exo-Protectorate Council On distant Gralmond, astronomer Dudley Bose observes the envelopment of the Dyson Pair and realizes that although the stars were previously thought to have been enveloped in Dyson spheres over time, they were in fact enveloped instantaneously. With the assistance of LionWalker, an amateur astronomer on the even more distant planet of Tanyata, Bose confirms the instantaneous envelopment and sets the Commonwealth into motion. In a similarly sprawling, nonchalant fashion, Hamilton introduces a cornucopia of subplots. Many of them seem irrelevant to the main plot at first, and it is easy to wonder what purpose they serve. The murder of Tara Jennifer Shaheef and Wyobie Cotal was like this for me. Even when one of the main characters, Paula Myo, was assigned to the case, I still didn't think its role in building her characters was sufficient to justify its inclusion. Then Hamilton surprised me by taking the shallow, self-centred, immature Mellanie and turning her into a much more important figure. And suddenly it started making sense.

Oscar Monroe[CS] Operations Director of the CST exploratory division on Merredin , a member of the Second Chance mission and later a Navy Captain of the starship Defender and after that the Dublin The other two elements of Pandora’s Star that stand out are Hamilton’s descriptions of exploratory space travel and his weird-yet-accessible depiction of a hostile alien power. I’ll say no more about the latter since that would get us into spoiler territory, but I will share my favorite passage highlighting the ingenuity of human engineering and the bravery of astronauts in the face of the unknown: Samantha McFoster [JU] A clan member in the Guardians of Selfhood , technician for the planet's revenge Elves! Who could say no to that! Silvergalde is a more tempting planet. And down the rabbit hole we go! In a lot of ways, this ambitious novel, like all of the Peter F. Hamilton novels I can think of, should be put on a higher rung than all the other SF out there. Why? Because it's LONG.

Take out 2/3 of the book and it gets 5 stars. But, I only give it two stars for boring me for such a long time. There were just too many really interesting and funny scenes to single out any in particular, I really enjoy Peter's sense of humour, and John Lee brings this across so nicely I find John Lee to be a good narrator, his clarity is outstanding and his light inflections on tone and voice go a long way in developing a good connection between the story and the listening. I believe any book narrated b y him would be a damn fine listen. The grand size of the book surprised and pleased me at the same time. While some of the technical jargon was hard to follow at first the book was dedicated in part to helping me understand and I appreciated this.

Opposed to the mission are the Guardians of Selfhood, a cult that believes the human race is being manipulated by an alien entity they call the Starflyer. Bradley Johansson, leader of the Guardians, warns of sabotage, fearing the Starflyer means to use the starship's mission for its own ends. On Velaines, Adam Elvin successfully evades a police trap set by Paula Myo and acquires weapons for the Guardians of Selfhood. Pandora's Star is a 2004 novel, written by Peter F. Hamilton. It is the first book in the Commonwealth Saga with its sequel, Judas Unchained. I AM very impressed with the whole book, and even more so that Hamilton keeps pulling off these HUGE works, but I'm worried that I'm bouncing off of them.

That is why people worldwide use PandoraStar for their personal development and professionally with clients…

We have various other people who have important status too and some of the aliens we meet caused me great amusement becuase of how they functioned, but I just couldn't tell you everyone or we would be here forever. Being a huge fan of the 'Night's Dawn' trilogy, I was naturally very happy to get my hands on this book. If you liked 'Night's Dawn', there's a chance you will find something to your liking in here - but don't expect anything approaching the quality of 'The Neutronium Alchemist'. I also felt that this book was way too huge for what actually happened. Maybe this is supposed to focus on the technology and characters more than the plot, I don't know, but for me it took a long time to even set up a plot and settle into it, and when it did it was so fragmented with all the povs that I still couldn't connect to it.

These passages probably reveal more about Hamilton’s assessment of existing 21st-century human civilization than they do about what a 24th-century posthuman civilization would look like (if we can get there), but that’s not a criticism; the future’s inherent unpredictability usually ensures that science fiction is more about critiquing the present than describing what’s to come with much reliability. Hamilton’s preoccupation with this debate is engaging and useful despite its heavy-handed presentation. Tarlo [CS] Investigator at the Intersolar Serious Crimes Directorate and later a Lieutenant in Navy IntelligenceI need to face it. I find some parts slightly boring and others fantastic. I find myself dreading another novel-long subject I'd rather skip in favor of the other stories I love more. This is sometimes a problem with super-long novels. My attention wants to wander if it's not super fantastic. And then I keep wondering if this might have been better served with a HUGE edit. Or cut them up into a lot of side novels. Glacially slow set-up and introduction of a variety of characters. Very little plot progression. I liked what was there. Alas, it was not for the impatient and easily bored (aka ME!). I wonder how all these very different stories will come together. We also have Paula, a detective on the hunt for a long-time offender who is repeatedly escaping her clutches and foiling her attempts to capture him. Her story had a few ups, but was mostly dead boring for me sadly. One of the co-inventors of the wormhole technology seeks the wisdom of intergalactic Space Elves regarding the Dyson pair, and gets stranded in the far corners of the galaxy, with an unknown alien and a young kid as his companions.
