The Salomon OUTline Prism GTX felt like one of the bigger shoes in the test thanks to the wide footbed, which then tapered and curved to provide a supportive mid section and cushioned heel. With a removable OrthoLite insole cut to the shape of the inner shoe, the OUTline Prism GTX provides superior cushioning which added to the overall sizing and comfort rating of the shoe. Not super comfortable when covering serious ground. The OUTline performs best on short day hikes on established trails. Stand on the A4 paper with your heel pressed firmly against the wall and your foot pointed forward with the edge of your big toe aligned with the edge of the paper.Salomon Outline GTX hiking shoes are available in two variants – the waterproof version and the non-waterproof (non-GTX) version. The OUTline Prism GTX is available in a Gore-Texand non Gore-Tex versions. Having it as a low-cut profile allows the shoe to be accessible as a running shoe and reduces weight and bulk. The Gore-Texmembrane kept my feet dry, even while running through saturated bogs and remote fells in the Peak District. It’s perhaps no surprise that the Pale Almond color was soon rendered more Bog Brown by the end of its first outing, but discoloration aside, they didn’t let any moisture in, which made them ideal for exploring in wet conditions. Fit The Outline GTX comes in two versions: The Salomon Outline Low GTX hiking shoes that I have (both available in waterproof and non-waterproof) and a mid-high version (waterproof only). Last but not least, the lugs, which are 5 mm in depth, present 27 different geometries to finish off the surface-gripping formula. No mud can ever hinder your pace since the lugs are well-spaced enough to let the mud come off on its own.
The Mid variant of the Outline GTX, on the other hand, weighs slightly more while also being a bit more stable. However, that’s not why you’d want to opt for this variant. Membrane:Underneaththat upper is a Gore-tex membrane that is fully waterproof to protect your feet in the worst weather. By the end of the hike, my (higher-volume) feet felt tired. In other words, the trail impacted them more than I expected, especially after reading all the good stuff about Salomon Outline Low GTX online. The EVA midsole and the Ortholite insole did not provide as much cushioning as I expected.On the bright side, I’ve noticed no durability-related problems on other parts of Salomon Outline GTX. But still, I genuinely hope that the brand plans to do something about this issue and that they will find a way to improve the toe cap’s connection point. Support & Stability
