About this deal

Well, even at the new higher price, this has some really good value inside. It also has very useful units, and even if you bought the Cadia Stands box, you can always use more Cadians, and Sentinels! Artillery models get +1 to their hit rolls if the target is within 12inches and visible to a friendly Vox-caster or Sentinel unit. A: Unlike most armies, the Imperial Guard have multiple kits for the same unit. This is because different regiments have different uniforms. You’ll see some in the photos in this article. They all work mostly the same in-game, so this is largely an aesthetic choice on the part of the player (competitive gamers are screaming at me right now, since the different regimental doctrines do genuinely make a difference, but big picture: they’re still cheap infantry who die a lot). Because of the way the regimental doctrines rules work, most people will build their whole army (or at least whole detachments) to look like it’s all from the same regiment. Cadian and Catachan soldiers are available in plastic, which makes them the default choices. The only other regiment currently available from GW are the Steel Legion, and even then, only the basic troops are available – and in metal, no less. Old school.

The answer is now NO. This is from the latest Balance Dataslate… the Reinforcements Stratage is not a Battle Tactic. Therefore, its CP cost cannot be changed. The Chimera is GW’s hilarious parody of America’s Bradley AFV, which is pretty much a self-satirizing vehicle in the first place. It’s a transport tank covered in anti-infantry guns, and is nifty for lobbing an infantry squad at distant objectives without them being as in danger of being blown away before they reach their destination. This is a useful thing for smaller-medium armies in particular. Sneaky build tips

Astra Militarum Combat Patrol

If you just want to paint the army, play it casually and have a bit of everything, the models are still very impressive and it’s a good price for such a big variety of units, representing many different tactical aspects of how the army works. If, on the other hand, you are into telling stories, then Ratlings might be perfect for telling the story of how a Cadian Battle Force came to rescue 15 Ratlings from the centre of the battlefield, along with the vital intel they had retrieved. Like many of the new models, we first saw them in the Astra Militarum army set, which includes two full ten-model squads. But they’re now out as standalone kits.

For weaknesses we start by flipping one of their strengths; while their shooting is almost unmatched, the Imperial Guard, as an army, are vulnerable and weak in melee. In fact, the Astra Militarum do have some strong melee units – but they’re few and far between. Even the strongest Bullgryn melee units can’t stand toe-to-toe with armies that specialise in getting up close and personal, like Orks, Khorne Chaos Space Marines, or Tyranids. The missions can be one-sided, and one side can expect to lose, but the how, why and how badly are all to play out… Matched PlayIn terms of broad benefits for an Astra Militarum force, the first is simply the range of models you’ll have access to. The Imperial Guard has one of the widest selections available to any Warhammer 40k player, with tonnes of specialisation built in. As part of the ‘last hurrah’ of 9th edition before Warhammer 40k 10th Edition dropped in June 2023, GW released a very welcome battalion of new Astra Militarum models to bolster the Guard’s ranks.
