About this deal

All the differences, however, were more interesting than annoying or distracting. Although I like the movie more, Basil is a perfectly competent and adorable children's book that feels, for a 1958 novel set in the 1800s, remarkably modern in terms of writing. I'm sure today's kids would enjoy the adventure just as much, and the illustrations are absolutely lovely. The appeal of Victorian London is so great, though, that I'm not sure if I will continue with the series (looks like it has books set in Mexico and Switzerland, for example). Basil: Know him? That bat one Fidget by name, is in the employ of the very fiend who was the target of my experiment. The horror of my every waking moment! The nefarious Professor Ratigan! In an unproduced pitch by Frank Angones for a Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers reboot, Basil was going to be Olivia's mentor before she founded the Rescue Aid Society.

The Great Mouse Detective (1986) doesn't have those problems. The book doesn't take long to read because it's a children's book, and because the animation has animals, I'm not bothered by the discrepancies in characters etc. Basil and the Lost Colony (1964) Basil leads an expedition in search of the Lost Colony of the Tellmice. Along the way he is being hunted by Ratigan and his gang. Basil and the Royal Dare (May 2019) Basil and Dawson come to the aid of the British and Bohemian Royal Families (of mice), when several royal teens go missing. Diana Chesney as Mr. Judson: Basil's housekeeper. She adores Basil, but gets very annoyed when he mistreats her good pillows by shooting them with a pistol. She is based on Mrs. Hudson. The flat Basil and I shared fronted the street, so that we could see our callers before they entered, just as Mr. Holmes did.

Barrie Ingham as Bartholomew: One of Ratigan's henchmen. He meets his end early on during Ratigan's song when he drunkenly calls his boss a rat; enraged, Ratigan throws him outside and summons Felicia, who devours him.To make these matters clear, I shall tell you something of his amazing career as a detective, and then relate the events leading up to the crime. Mr. Holmes was tall and thin, with sharp, piercing eyes. And if ever a mouse may be said to resemble a man, then Basil was the mouse! Susanne Pollatschek as Olivia Flaversham: A young female mouse of Scottish descent who seeks Basil's help in finding her toymaker father. It was actually originally intended for iconic British actor John Cleese to do the voice of Basil but turned down the role since he was cast in the non-Disney live-action film, A Fish Called Wanda, which was released in 1988.
