About this deal

Selecting the best water butt is dependent on three primary factors: size, material, and budget. The size of your garden heavily influences the size and water capacity of the water butt needed. For compact spaces, a smaller water butt under 200 litres, potentially wall-mounted, could be an ideal space-saving solution. Alternatively, larger gardens can accommodate water butts with a capacity of 200 litres or more. Remember to factor in additional accessories such as a stand for easy watering can access, a hose, and a diverter kit for downpipe connectivity. Types of Water Butts Setting up this plastic water butt takes about 15 minutes , and that includes digging to level out the ground so that the legs are standing on a flat surface. After fitting the legs together, I cut a hole in my drain pipe, then fit the rain diverter, before drilling a hole in the water butt to fit the pipe. It’s a fairly simple process that’s pretty standard across all of the water butts that I tested.

Comes with stand and Diverter kit for square or round standard downpipes. (68mm round, 65mm square) Some people are put off by the look of the standard water butt and, let’s be honest, they’re not he most eye catching things in the world are they? The set-up process for this water butt was pretty standard, taking around 15 minutes . You connect the legs, create the necessary holes in your drain pipe and water butt (there are indents that show you where to drill) and then fit the various pipes. Fits standard 68mm round and 65mm square downpipes. This covers the majority of domestically used downpipes, including square. Well constructed for the price – not far off the best value for money Strata 100L which is also slimline.

Oak Rattan Effect Poly Water Butt - 150ltr

This water butt comes with all of the necessary accessories – three legs and a rain diverter kit. Unlike some of the other water butts that I reviewed, this one had a full set of instructions too, which made setting it up a breeze. Water butts come in a range of sizes. Naturally, having a small water butt is better than none, so even a 100 L model can be useful, especially in small gardens.

Water butts usually sit close to a wall, so do choose one that won't take up too much space or be in the way of any doors or windows. The price means no diverter or stand but this gives you flexibility if you have a non standard downpipe or stand setup. The increase in capacity unfortunately means an increase in price. However, it’s still a great long-term investment. At an impressive capacity of 350 litres, it can store so much rainwater you’ll soon see a drastic cut in your water bill. Now, there’s all these fancy kits out there but my preferred method of install over the years has been to simply divert/convert your guttering to take run off rain water, but with the added bonus of any overflow finding its way to a soak away or drain. So that’s what I am going to show you first up. I’m installing a gutter on my new plastic shedand simply running an overflow off of the water butt pointed at the soak away. A picture is worth a thousand words in this case: Installing a gutter with the Strata 100L Slimline Water Butt on my new plastic shed with an overflow into the soak away Standard Water Butts: These are the most common type and often resemble large barrels. They come in various sizes, typically ranging from 100 to 200 litres, and are usually made from durable plastic. Standard water butts need to be placed on a stand to allow easy access to the tap.
