The top note here is an extremely sweet candied orange, at once bright yet so viscous I feel as if I'm inhaling a jar of marmalade. The citrus syrup persists into the heart of the scent, where it is seasoned with cinnamon and supported by very sweet amber. There are some floral notes floating about as well, predominantly a bright, clean jasmine, but they are very much subsidiary to the sweet stuff. This fragrance, to me, is primarily dominated, not by patchouli, but by lightly smoky amber, benzoin and vanilla. After the first few minutes, that's pretty much what it develops into, and it's all rather linear. It gets better and softer as time goes on, and winds up being an extremely pleasing vanilla (mainly) scent to me. The vanilla sometimes seems to even take on a little bit of a chocolatey smell to me, similar to Noir de Noir in its later dry down (which is the best part of the fragrance). I love chocolate and vanilla, but the thing that draws the line for me at being unable to wear it is a noticeably feminine powdery smell most of the way through. I love powdery scents, too, and have several of them. But this one just yelled out "feminine" to me, so it's just not going to be my cup of tea. Obviously, many men enjoy it, so if any of this sounds like something you might be interested in, I would encourage you to sample it. It's a very nice, quality fragrance, IMO, that I would say is very much under the radar. Real Patchouly has a big variety of notes listed, but I must admit, I can't smell most of them. Things like cedar, eucalyptus, and tobacco never really make a clear appearance to my nose. Well, my thoughts on it are going to be surprising....even to me! I sampled this one and bought it, based on that sampling. But after giving myself a spray of it after its arrival, I soon realized that this fragrance is going to be too femme for me to wear. Although it is listed as a unisex fragrance, I don't think I would ever be fully comfortable wearing it. Don't get me wrong, the smell itself is VERY nice. But it's nicer for women, IMO, not me. So I'll be giving it to my wife.

I suppose I shouldn't be all that surprised at my sudden discovery, because several of the positive comments here and on Fragrantica are from women. Women are probably the most complementary of it.....often comparing it favorably to such things as Coromandel and Prada Amber. The opening of RP is the only part that is a little bit challenging for me, and that's probably BECAUSE of the patchouli (and a certain herbal smell). But within 10-15 minutes, it starts to blend with other pleasing notes, which are the REAL stars of the show. Oggi Bois 1920 rappresenta dunque il valore aggiunto del settore della profumeria di nicchia, ponendosi come precursore verso note olfattive nuove, da esplorare e “indossare” poi, affinché coinvolgano, ispirino e armonizzino i nostri sensi. To me, it's a relatively simple formula of citrus, patchouli and herbs to start off (even though the patch is listed as a middle note). As I said, I've never been much of a patchouli fan, but compared to some I've smelled, RP is rather mild and non-offensive. You can tell it is there, but there never seems to be enough of it to justify its name being the star of the show for this fragrance.
