About this deal

La magia existe en la mente de quienes creen en ella, no en su influencia real sobre la realidad."💙 I can't even explain how much I absolutely LOVED this witchy book by a new to me author!!! Hex Appeal is full of found family, magic, menace, a delightfully cast of quirky characters and is the most perfect #SpookySeason read of the year! Despite my many negative feelings, I must give a shout out to Katy Purry. I was all about that cat and found most of the cat related aspects of this novel enjoyable. I wish I could rationalize two stars for that, but I loathed the other aspects too much.

We follow Sarah Nelson as she leads her perfectly normal life in the suburbs. Working as a luxury realtor, married to a handsome doctor and mothering 2 children and caring for her feline familiar. What the world doesn’t see though is her sassy cat Katy Purry arguing with her (yes - a talking cat named Katy Purry!) and the little bits of magic that surround Sarah everyday. She has limited her magic to small household chores and spells over the years - that is until a someone threatens to unearth a secret her estranged coven has buried for over a decade. As the threat grows closer the magic develops a mind of its own and starts to spiral out of control. Can the coven reunite, keep their secret buried and return to their lives like nothing happened? Find out when Hex Education hits shelves September 19, 2023!This girl loves a good witchy romance for the spooky season. This one was filled with unique interesting magic, lots of actions, strong badass women, and a touch history

Obviously I can't comment on that decision because I haven't read the original Dutch version of Hex. I didn't particularly feel that the US setting added anything to the story, and that might of course be because I'm Canadian, but I don't think so. As I said above, what makes the book scary is the interaction between the supernatural and human nature, and that would be the same regardless of the setting. These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment. When they were in college, Sarah, Katrina, and Alicia uncovered their magic. They were soon trying to improve their skills. Unfortunately, one night their dorm went up in flames when they made a mistake. They scattered and no one realized they were responsible for the fire.

Still, I held out for an ending I hoped would redeem things. I did not get one. Instead, there were some annoying reveals, and a lot of tidiness. I was especially perturbed by Travis’s reaction in the final chapter, especially regarding Nancy. It was completely glossed over. Honestly, even though Nancy was the only character I liked, I also found her reaction to what Sarah eventually revealed a bit too easy. I hated the convenience of it all. What happened to Nancy was quite serious and, despite tension built around the secret, it was all swept under the rug. Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate. it’s not a perfect book - again, the characters are just there to move the plot along, there’s a sexual assault in the jail that seems unlikely and gratuitous, and it doesn’t quite commit to exploring all the doors of its own reveal, but it’s winky-clever and surprising and it just explodes into smalltown mass-panic chaos at the end like stephen king writing salem directed by michael bay.
