About this deal

Westerby did a treatment in six days, then proceeded to a full draft. He wrote a role specifically for Phyllis Calvert, then one of the studio's biggest stars. Calvert was reluctant to make the film but Box managed to persuade her. [8] It would be the last film Calvert made under her contract with Gainsborough. [9] What stands out most in this film is the location shooting. You have rarely seen such a picturesque atmosphere of jagged Alps, knee-deep snow, and treacherous glacial chasms. The staged scenes are seamlessly blended with the location shots. They did a marvelous job, so much so that it hardly looks more hostile than inviting -- a kind of fairyland. Not an abrasive surface or a bit of vegetation in sight. If you are a fan of 1940s british films you will recognise most of the cast and perhaps the writer ,the director and the writer of the music.

Actually they're only at the airport briefly, the pilots and crew of a passenger airplane (long before the jet era) is faced with near disaster, forced to land on a snowy Alps mountaintop with ten mostly temperamental passengers aboard. These oddball characters who never thought that they'd never see these people ever again have to learn to get along if they're going to survive, and that means learning how to be cooperative if they're not going to be tossed out into the freezing cold and face certain death. Quinlan, David (1984). British Sound Films: The Studio Years 1928–1959. London: B.T. Batsford Ltd. p. 196. ISBN 0-7134-1874-5. Production Real Life Inspiration Morane-Saulnier-built version of the Fieseler Storch STOL aircraft, similar to ones used in the actual mountain rescue of the 1946 C-53 Skytrooper crash on the Gauli Glacier. While she, Fuuka and Junpei are hanging around the kitchen, he walks in, the earphones firm against his ears as he blasts music into them. Fuuka subtly waves at him, and he complies, walking over and sitting down next to Yukari.Kine Weekly wrote that the film: "opens spectacularly, but the main story, woven from the reactions of 13 oddly assorted people suddenly cut off from the outside world and faced with almost certain death, contains many theatrical characters and moments, and peters out without recapturing the realistic initial thrills. Done many times before inslightly different guises, its tangled tale is much more suited to the stage than screen. [17] I would suggest that it becomes a break of journey when you leave a station otherwise than solely intending to transfer to another station. So for example I don't think walking (or taking the tram) from Manchester Piccadilly to Victoria is a break of journey if you are continuing onwards from there. But doing the same journey and stopping off at a café, shop, restaurant, etc. would constitute a break of journey in my view. Broken Journey is a British drama film from 1948 that will take you on an emotional ride. Directed by Ken Annakin, the movie stars Phyllis Calvert, Margot Grahame, and James Donald. The film opens with a group of passengers boarding an airplane in Lisbon. Onboard, we are introduced to a wide range of characters - from the married couple Keith (James Donald) and Eleanor (Phyllis Calvert) who are on their honeymoon to the inquisitive journalist Joan (Margot Grahame) who is investigating the effects of the war on the locals in the Far East. She feels a lump forming in her throat, unsure of what to say. In the end, she chooses not to – he’s opening up, to her, and it’s not her place to comment on anything.

The film is shot in a documentary-style, which adds authenticity to the scenes. The use of real locations and unconventional camera angles immerses the viewer in the story, and you almost feel like you are stranded in the desert with the passengers. The cinematography is breathtaking, and the scenes of the barren desert landscapes are awe-inspiring.It's almost completely unrealistic. At least the two aviators should have known better, even if the aging movie actress and the pompous opera tenor didn't.
