About this deal

But, on the flip side, there is so much hope because the professions are portrayed as human, but good, tough, and relentless at their jobs. Kit was the main detective, but there were several working together and then there was Sam’s investigations, too. This one was interesting because the second main character is both a detective and a suspect and the author takes the reader into what that can feel like, as well. Cold-Blooded Liar includes victims that are women and some are underage, so be aware of that. The plot, the complex storyline, and the characterization are all so compelling, I absorbed this as fast as I could. Cold-Blooded Liar was an excellent, excellent book with fabulous characters that were easy to relate to. Not only were Sam and Kit wonderful, there were also Kit’s uncle and aunt Sullivan and Marion, as well as her partner, Baz and her new partner. I love that this book laid the groundwork for what promises to be a fabulous series. This book is serious and heartbreaking but offers so much promise when it comes to the strength of the characters and their determination to find justice. This was a thrilling book that I literally sped through because I just had to know what was going to happen next, and I am very excited for the next book in the series. In a couple of places when switching POV, the same text would be repeated and it was almost like when switching the POV, the new POV was slightly behind in the timeline and this disrupted the flow of the story. Unmarked graves in city parks. Pretty, petite, blond, high school girls with a love of acting. A serial killer cutting the loose ends to his identity. A cop and a shrink at odds at first then coming to respect each other and finally working together to catch a murderer. As always, Karen Rose sets a wonderful stage on which the good guys finally triumph, but not before a whole lot of bodies drop.

One of Karen Rose’s most popular series is the Baltimore series. The series is set in Baltimore, Maryland, and follows a group of characters as they navigate the city’s dark underworld of crime and corruption. The series is notable for its complex, multi-layered plotlines and realistic portrayal of the city and its inhabitants. When Sam Reeves patient’s claims hint at him being a killer he doesn’t know how to tell the police without jeopardizing his career with patient confidentiality laws in place. However, Sam can’t live with himself if there’s someone in danger and he doesn’t do something about it. Little does he know that his tip with lead to him being a suspect. Meredith’s job takes her to work with children abused sexually. When she is out celebrating her success with one of her patients, someone is trying to shoot her, but she comes out unharmed from the affair. The question is, who wants to shoot Meredith and why? Of course, there is Adam who wants nothing more than to protect Meredith with his life. In the end, this story was a blend of dark and light which is the author’s specialty when presenting the dregs of human nature. There were a few lagging moments in the first half as it was setting the table, but it was riveting when it counted. Warnings to those who can’t read about abuse and a past rape which is all handled carefully, but is part of the narrative. There are troubles that come out of the cases and Kaj’s family, but good things from his romance with Val and the teamwork of the expanding Broussard Investigations that go after the powerful evil in New Orleans. Romantic Suspense fans who want a gritty case balanced with a solid romantic pair look no further than this series. And with extremely intriguing and likable characters. A complex, captivating storyline. Not to mention twists and turns. This was a fantastic read and introduction to a new department and city and I'd one hundred percent recommend it to others.Another minor thing which impacted the flow of the story were giving characters names that were somewhat difficult to know how to pronounce, only for the character to explain how to pronounce their oddly spelled name. This was consistent with the first book too and something which I found quite annoying 😅. ELLIJAH is awesome but unbelievable at 9 years old. So definitely suspend your beliefs in this novel and just enjoy what you can. Everything lays out a bit too easily and some of the connections are OTT

Like with the first book, despite the length, there was not enough relationship development, or romantic tension to make the relationship between Kaj and Val feel meaningful. I felt disconnected to their romance story because of this.As I always say, I believe books need trigger warnings so my warnings here are drug abuse, child neglect and sexual assault. These are mostly just referred to and dealt with care and are quite brief so would not have put me off the book but I just believe readers should have that knowledge before reading. J.P. “Kaj” Cardozo is the Assistant District Attorney for New Orleans. When his young son is nearly kidnapped, he hires Broussard Investigations to protect him. Kaj feels tormented that his job puts his son’s life in jeopardy. However, he cannot ignore his growing attraction to his son’s new female bodyguard. The investigation takes a darker, drastic turn when they learn there is more to both of his high-profile cases. Will Kaj have to step away from those cases to protect his son? Or will he power through to allow justice to be served?

Bottom line, this was a great addition to Ms. Rose's world and another story that I heavily enjoyed by her. I can't wait to see what else New Orleans will give us. As I mentioned above, the author has broken down her larger series into several subgroups according to the locations in which they’re set. Kit and Sam are both likeable and relatable characters. Kit is focused, dedicated, hardworking, and is a rising star in the homicide department with her high closure rate. Sam is a caring person who volunteers for local charities. He has to balance his professional and personal ethics. He’s also nice, smart, and good at getting people to talk. While both go through transformations during the story, there’s still room for these dynamic characters to continue to grow in future books. The supporting characters have varying depths, but provide support or conflict to enrich the reading experience. The two main characters, Val and Kaj, were developed with heart and kindness, plus the growth of steamy heat and simmering love interest tempered the ugliness surrounding them. After completing her tours with the Marines in Iraq, Molly Sutton knew she could take down any bad guy she met.But when a family tragedy exposes the dark side of her local police, she joined up with her former CO Burke Broussard, who left New Orleans PD to set up a private investigative service for people who couldn’t find justice elsewhere.
